Am I depressed?

Hi,
I would like advice. I have been feeling very low some days while okay others. My self esteem is nil and I find myself thinking about death and wishing it would be better for everyone if I wasn’t here.
It’s 18 months since I was first diagnoseed and everything appears to be oksy physically but I definitely don’t feel “right in the head”
I have a lovely supportive family but I’m to embarressed to tell them how I feel.
Should I speak to the doctor or am I being stupid?
Gill

Hi Gill

It sounds like you’re feeling quite low at the moment. It’s not at all unusual to feel this way, as I’m sure you realise. As well as the support you are getting from family and friends you might want to phone our helpline and talk through how you are feeling. You are able to talk in confidence to one of our trained members of staff who can offer you a listening ear as well as support and advice.

The number to ring is freephone 0808 800 6000 the lines being open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturdays 9am - 2pm.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Hi Gill

Please do not for one minute think that you are being stupid and there is ceratinly nothing to be embarrassed about with how you are feeling.

Please go and see your GP, and tell him/her exactly how you are feeling and take any help that is offered. You have been through a very traumatic time and sometimes we put on brave faces for our families even when we don’t feel that brave, probably because they are so supportive and we don’t want to worry them.

Love and take care

I feel rather low some days, even when I am out with family and friends having a lovely time. It is understandable that we feel bad as there is a lot to get your head round and our treatments mess with our hormones and therefore our moods. Definitely see your GP, thats what they are there for. Take care

Hi Gill

There is a big difference between feeling low because of treatment, diagnosis fatigue etc and actually having clinical depression. Depression is far more debilitating because whatever you do, you still feel very low. Normal functions like eating and sleeping become disturbed, for example and simple tasks like cooking a meal or doing the ironing are impossible. See your GP because they will know the difference. Clinical depression is very treatable and you will feel so much better.

Take care

Sorry to hear that you are feeling so low at the moment. As the others have said you are ot being stupid and should not be embarrassed about going to see your GP or sharing your feelings with your loved ones. I hope you are able to get some help and are soon feeling a bit better.
