Am I doing this right ?

Hello I’ve never joined a forum before and not sure if im doing this right ?

I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer three weeks ago and although i have got fantastic friends who are very supportive i need to talk to other people who know how i feel . I have Grade 3 HER2 positive BC and am waiting on a date to start Chemo and Herceptin im very positive as both my consultants say this is a curable kind of cancer , but i do have my moments !

I am 52 years young and have 2 children who are 21 and 17 and they are my main concern i would ove to hear from anyone who knows what this is like .

Thank you

The side effects get worse with each dose. You are going to need to learn to rest as much as possible. Your whole body will be weak, and if you overdo things, you’ll make yourself ill. Are you going to try using the cold cap? I didn’t bother. I love my wig and also have lots of hats and bandanas.

I advise you to have your hair cut short. It will shed rapidly about 2 weeks after your first chemo session. When it came out in handfuls, I just had it shaved off.

A lot of people get sick after chemo. Take all the anti-sickness pills they give you, and drink loads of water. I haven’t been nauseous at all yet, touch wood. I have mainly suffered from fatigue - I have no energy and am always out of breath. And I’ve suffered badly with mouth ulcers, lost fillings and chipped teeth. Be sure to ask for help with any side effects that you get, don’t suffer in silence. Don’t drink a y alcohol if you can help it. Your liver and all organs take a real hammering and just can’t cope with being overworked.

I think that’s the extent of it. Work with the medical team, not against them. You are effectively a nurse now and need to listen to your body, and respond.

I hope I’ve helped. If you want to know more, just ask.
