Anastrozole, aches and pains and moving house.

Im sure this has been covered before, but just want some advice. Im 56 and Ive been on anastrozole for about two years now. Have had all my treatment in the USA, where weve been living for the past five years. Were now packing up to return to the UK and I realise that after chemo, radiation and hormone therapy, this body is not the same one that came out here! After a few days of "heavy work", like you do when youre getting a house ready for sale, I feel absolutely “done in”. I ache all over, and have resorted to painkillers, which I dont much like doing!
Apart from realising that maybe this work will have to be done by someone younger and fitter, has anybody been given advice/been prescribed anything to cope with the aches and pains? I want to do as much as I can, myself, before resorting to help, or is that just my “stubborn British way?”

Hello Mimsy,
Have you tried cod liver oil, glucosamine and/or chondroitin? I’ve been taking Anastrozole for almost five years and found out about these quite early on. But last week I ran out and couldn’t get to anywhere to buy more for a few days and oh boy! Did I notice the difference!!
Hope that helps relieve the SE’s. Good luck with the move, Angelfalls xx

Hello Angelfalls,
Yes, I did wonder if it was time for the cod liver oil. Havent tried it yet. I bought Glucosamine/chondroitin tablets but they are HUGE, may have to research and see if I can find some smaller tablets.
This site kept me going through my treatment in the US in terms of being the only place where I could find a bit of home in the midst of the situation. Glad to hear you have found something that makes a difference, and I will go and get stocked up!

I also take glucosamine and the tablets are rather large but I take
the tablet with my morning orange juice ( I prefer the one with bits in this appears to be thicker) and they go down much easier. Hope this helps. I can also
confirm that if I miss a few days of these tables the aching begins.

Hi

When you say aches and pains, is it like mine? I get very stiff if i sit etc, but mainly I have this awful achy all over feeling, like the flu but without the fever. It comes on in the afternoon when I’m tired. do you think the glucosamine etc would help this??

Ive started taking the fish oil tablets and glucosamine. I think I see a difference, but they are all very big to get down! After the pains wore off, largely caused by lifting heavy stuff, I got diagnosed with lymphoedema in my affected breast so am now having MLD massage, and will be laying off the heavy work! Karis, are you on arimidex or anastrozole? I understand that they can give you achey joints. Theres a thread about it on tis forum.

Hi
Well, started with Arimidex 18 months ago, and then was switched to the Teva anastrozole. Just this terrible aching all over plus really tired. So perhaps I’ll give the glucosamine a go.K x

Karis, have you seen this thread?

You may find a lot to read on it.
My oncologist has just prescribed me Arimidex, Ive been on anastrozole since it came out.Ill be interested to see if theres a difference. If not I will go back to anastrozole as generics dont bother me.If I end up skipping around like a bunny rabbit Ill know theres a difference. Should add Im in the USA (Im British, came here with hubbys job) where healthcare is all done by private insurance so maybe the doc`s here are more obliging!
