Saw oncologist yesterday at another hospital (having had dreadful delays at my local one where I had my surgery). He is starting me on Anastrozole/Arimidex now with radiotherapy commencing on 11 August. Is this usual? I thought I had read somewhere on the forum that it should start after rads.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hello Atat, I had my WLE in Jan last year and was started on Anastrozole the day I was given the results from surgery- 10 days after my operation - I then started rads in the middle of March. I don’t know why some people are told to wait till after rads to start their Anastrozole I guess it’s just up to your onc. Best wishes Pat x
I was given my prescription for Anastrozole during one of my Onco appts last year even before i had finished my Chemo!
But i was told not to start taking them until after i had finished my Rads in August - i kept putting off taking them at first after hearing about all the side effects but i did start them in Sept!!
I guess like you say that different specialists tell you different things - as i have found out these past 10 months with various visits to the GP/hospital for all sorts of things and being told conflicting things on some of them!
I usually end up on this forum trying to find the answers to things i am worried about and more often than not somebody on here will pass on info that i can understand and feel better about as we have all been through similar things.
I started anastrozole before my radiotherapy started. My oncologist told me to start straight away and that was several weeks before my radiotherapy started.
I am due to start radio therapy on 20th of August but have been on Anastrozole 1 mg since 10 th July Its made me feel so tired and weary no get up and go plus hot flushes and achy feet ! I contacted my cancer nurse and she has advised to to stop taking it until after the radio therapy . this will give my body time to recover from the operation ( lump ectomy and lymph node removal ) and the chemo I had before the op. I advise you to ask your contacts if you are at all worried
Hi I had surgery (lumpectomy and total clearance of lymph nodes in April then after final histology in May no chemo thank goodness as HER2 negative. Then radiotherapy for 15 days June/July and the following day started Anasrozole. Think this is the norm locally with our consultant when no chemo involved
