Annual screening of Lobular Breast Cancer

This is very interesting thank you. I’ve just had a lumpectomy and was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer. I will be asking this question with my surgeon.

Hi, I’m a bit late to the party! Just read these posts after attending a meeting with fellow lobular cancer patients, organised by a lobular cancer charity.

I am shocked that so many of you aren’t being offered MRIs on the NHS. I found a lump in 2023, nothing showing on mammogram but a thorough ultrasound found it. Biopsy showed lobular cancer. As it hadn’t shown up on mammogram, was given an MRI which showed a ductal in opposite breast. Had bilateral lumpectomy as both lumps were small (7mm) and radiotherapy. 5 years letrozole. Follow up is annual mammogram AND MRI, so I’m lucky. Not sure what the purpose of the mammogram is since it missed 2 tumours!

I do wonder if MRIs pick up all lobulars? Will always wonder if I should have pushed for double mastectomy!
