Another core Biopsy... Is it normal?

Hi all.

I was diagnosed last tuesday with a Grade 3 invasive ducatal carcinoma following a core and fn biopsy. I had a full body CT on monday. I just had a call from my consultants sec and they want me to go to a different hospital to have another core biopsy. If they already diagnosed me then what reason would they have to do another and why would they send me to a different hospital?

I’m nervous now that they picked something else up on the scan and i’m shaking with nerves about having another biopsy done, It hurt last time! I’m more scared of the biopsy than the mastectomy because at least your put under before they start butchering you.

I have just had a second one today, feeling a bit sore now!  The reason being that they didn’t find anything on the first one, but they want to be absolutely certain.  I have another area in the same breast which is cancer, and that will be removed.  The second biopsy was with a bigger needle, which they didn’t let me see, probably a good thing, but also explains why it hurts more this time.  They should explain to you why they are doing it, is there somebody at your hospital you can ring to ask?

it seems to me that there is no end to the number of biopsies…just like you i had first one got diagnosed with grade 3 invasive cancer then did ct scan and then they did a biopsy on my neck…what freaks me out is that when i asked if this was the last biopsy i was told that they couldn t promise me that.I know i m not much help since i don t know what to think myself x

I too have been called back for another biopsy. I had my CT scan on Sun and my MRI scan yesterday and I got a phone call today asking me to go back on Friday as there is something unclear with the MRI. This threw me into a complete panic and so I called my breast care nurse who explained that as I am still very bruised internally, the MRI may be a bit blurred on some areas. I also have breast implants which the MRI can see more clearly so there may be an area that needs sampling that wasn’t picked up before. My nurse told me that this has been found in the same breast and if it is anything, my surgery plan may need to change. Originally I would have needed chemo first then lumpectomy then rads am then tam. Not sure what’s happening now xx
