Anxiously waiting for a date

Hi all

I don’t post on here very often but I still continue to keep up to date with things that are going on. Just wanted to know did you wait from the time of your first consultation with the surgeon to getting a date for your op. I do understand that timings are different ie tummy op,implants etc. I saw my surgeon 3rd March but haven’t had a date yet. (I am under the Lister in Stevenage)I have already bugged my surgeons secretary, just really anxious for at least a date.

Hello,

I know that all hospitals will be different, but for me in Leicestershire I saw my consultant on 21 September, which was when I was put on the waiting list. I received my letter with the operation date just before Christmas, and the date was 24 February.

Hi Roadrunner, thanks for replying, believe it or not I have just been given my date, it’s 14th June, I am really excited but very nervous, I am having a pedicled Tram, so was it this year you had it done?

Hi Caroleg

I had my consultation towards end of last year (2009) and have my operation date now for 20th April although it was meant to be 13th April but it’s been delayed now. It’s not an urgent operation or anything so I knew it could be quite a wait.

Best wishes
Ruby xx

Carole,

It was last month, five weeks ago tomorrow. I had an LD flap. I’m due to go back to work next week, which I’m not looking forward to, although I know I will be well enough by then.

Hi carole!
just saw your post. i’m under the Lister too so thought I’d let you know my experience. Saw surgeon last year about July time, had letter abt 4weeks later for op on 3rd Dec. I had DIEP flap done & all went really well. just had nipple done 3 weeks ago.
What are you having done?
Wish you luck & if you want to ask me anything fire away!
Best thing I ever did! no regrets at all.
Lin.

Hi lindilou

Well I am having pedicled tram and reduction on my other side as I hate my size, currently 36F. I am really looking forward to it but obviously very very nervous. Although I have spoken to my Nurse and surgeon I have also read the books, just a little unsure as to how long it takes to recover, I know everyone is different. According to the books it’s about 6-8 weeks. I will just be so glad to have a new boob, I was diagnosed in Dec 08, finished Chemo 22nd June 09 and have about 5 more Herceptins to go. I will just focus on towards the end of the year (not wishing this one away too much ) and then hopefully I will feel a bit more confident. Do you have any advice pre op, how long did it take you to recover.

Hope u are well xxxx

Hi Carole.
Sorry you had to repeat yourself! I didnt read the rest of the posts.
Your op is slightly different from mine so recovery may be a bit longer & as you say everyone is different! I had a lift & reduction on good side too at the same time.
My recovery went very wellwith only a little setback with tummy wound as it started leaking a little after about a week. Took a couple of weeks to clear up with weekly visits to dressing clinic.
Sat in chair day after op, catheter out next day & was able to walk to loo & bathroom.Came home on 6th day.
Hubbie was home for about a week & was then able to get by on my own just pottering around.Found walking outside a bit of a strugle at first but it improved as time went on & by the time i got to 6 weeks I felt more or less normal.
Had all good intentions pre op to lose a bit of weight & cut down on my wine but ofcourse I didn’t & was fine!
Best advice is to listen to your body, it will soon tell you if you’ve done too much & dont be dissappointed if you have a good day & then pay for it the next day.
I still feel very tired at times & I’m not quite up to speed on my allottment yet but on the whole I’m very pleased with my recovery & its so great to have 2 boobs again.
I wish you luck for June & would love to know how you get on.
Who is your surgeon?
Take care,
Lin.

Hi,

Sorry took so long to get back, internet has only just been fixed. Thanks for all your comments. Lindilou it made me laugh to read your comment about losing weight and cut down on the wine drinking…cos that is me all over. My surgeon is Mr Jervaid. I just cannot wait to get rid of the Jelly that I have to put in every morning and take out every night LOL
