Adding my disgust to this too!! I didn’t cold cap, but was given a wig voucher as standard on my first appointment with the oncologist. That would not have been taken away from me if I had cold capped. I’m Shrewsbury and Telford NHS who I gather are well over budget but have been amazing with the cancer care and willingness to prescribe everything necessary!
You don’t need this added stress, I’m appalled and do think they’re trying to put you off cold capping. Definately keep questioning this - good luck!

Morning ladies and thank you all for your messages of support and anger!!!
Hair is falling out thick and fast and yesterday they told me that the wrong size cap was used on cycle 1. At the time I didn’t know what to expect so I just went along with what they advised. They used a smaller size yesterday which felt much colder and there was ice on my head when it was removed. Headache lasted hours after too.
Guess the damage from cycle 1 cannot be reversed so I’m coming round to the idea that I need to give up on the cap and embrace going bald!!! To say I’m gutted is an understatement but in the grand scale of things I guess I have more important things to worry about.

Helen don’t give up if you don’t want to. I had a badly fitted hat at one session, well in fact 3 badly fitted hats as they are snal on from freezer ones and not paxman. I still kept 35-40% of my hair and it’s enough to not be too worried if just going to the supermarket or something so can wear my bandana. Unlike if I an going out where I will wear my wig.
One badly fitted hat is a pain in the rear end and you do end up loosing a bit more after that cycle but if they fit them properly from now on then you might be ok.

Stick with it Helen, you’ve done 2 and that’s more than I did!! I’d carry on just to p1ss them off ?!! I admire those of you cold capping as much as we’re admired for being brave enough to go for total hair loss! It’s personal choice. It’s not being vain - how can you be vain going through this cr@p?! As Vicky has said, it will give you more options at the end when any hair you e lost grows back xxx
Well the hair has gone!!! Washed it this morning and it almost all came out. Phoned hairdresser and she came up to house . She’s cut what’s left very short. Chemo unit have finally agreed to a wig referral but could be up to 3 weeks so my hairdresser has restyled the one my friend gave me. Very upsetting to see my hair go but also a relief in a strange was as it was getting so annoying finding hairs everywhere. Helen x
Ah sorry to hear that Helen
You will get used to it, I have, and you definately won’t miss the hair shedding everywhere!!
I’m in my 5th cycle of chemo now (second of T) and looking forward to some hair growth, I keep getting the mirror out and having a good look - little hopeful thus early I know!! I’ve also been sat outside trying to get some fresh air on it, smothered in suncream for the 10 mins of sun we had, can’t be too careful!
Lots of love xxx
Sorry to hear that Helen. It is always a very personal choice. Xxxx
