Hatty - did I tell you that I occasionally take the two Lancashire Heelers to whippet racing? Asbo is always up against a sweet Patterdale bitch… but if you think your Patterdales have short legs, race 'em against a Heeler - poor As doesn’t stand a chance!!!
Just been for 4 mile walk with 2 very strong dogs…stuff the lymphodema! I am left handed (left is ‘bad arm’)and am entering a hedgelaying comp 4 weeks after last chemo…bcn would possibly need reviving if I actually told her…he he
Didn’t do four miles, lol, at least, not in a straight line, but 40 mins with small dogs in the rain was long enough this time around… and actually, I think the little two pull more than the big dollops, prob. because the big 'uns wear headcollars (well, you put a halter on a horse don’t you?!!).
Heading off out with a scatty 17-mth border collie for a yomp around the common. I can be out for an hour and a half and she still looks like she’s just got out of the car to start off. Lovely little dog.
Trip, have you ever thought of wearing roller blades?
Only whenever I watch Cesar Millan!! Can just see me careering down the road through the village, bald head, legs going every which way, shouting MUSH MUSH… as the Lancashire Heelers go full pelt after the nearest squirrel…
My patts are fast we have a lure machine to train them ha ha. We are starting a terrier training and racing club this year.
pics of my dogs on my web site, PM me if you would like to see them.
Hatty - they just love chasing the lure! Wasn’t sure what the two heelers would make of chasing a material thing when they are such dedicated ratters, but if it moves, they’ll run after!!! A friend of mine (also with Heelers) introduced us to the terrier racing heats at the end of whippet racing - so much fun. There’s a place ten minutes up the road from here where they practise on a Wednesday and hold a match occasionally - would never have known about it if my Gloucester friend hadn’t picked up a flyer from a race down in Dorset!
The only initial problem we ever have is that Gremlin hates having a muzzle on, and stopped halfway through one run to take it off… and she was flippin winning for the first time ever!!!
Trip, just because you live near Salisbury doesn’t mean you won’t end up half way up a tree in Lancashire… or if they head the other way then perhaps Lif needs to keep an eye out for you somewhere in deepest, darkest Devon!
Off out now (no, really!) the doggie is getting desperate and keeps throwing her ball and squeaky bone at me, or onto the table where she’s not allowed to go and get it.
My daughter took the Cavaliers and bulldog out today, felt quite achey but wanted to walk, so went out for a walk with the Retrievers and daughter, thought we’d go on one of the tracks we hadn’t been for ages to give them new smells etc and a good run, got fair way down and it was just gloopy mud, carried on tho’ cos the dogs were having a ball !! forgetting there was a slope about a mile down the track, said to Amelia, wouldn’t go down the middle, use the edge doesn’t look so slippery, she went down the middle (of course!!)me on the edge, she got down no trouble, me, 1/2 way down straight on my butt, mud, chalk, water, yeuk, had a good 2 miles walk home, to top it all, it poured just as I got up ! oh well, there’s always tomorrow
troublesbrewin lol i love anything like that you know youve walked ha ha bet you forgot the C for a while did you feel better afterwards or more achy?
Choccie where abouts in Devon are you we could have a doggy meet up lol
triphazard we havent raced our dogs yet we have taken them to have a look at the end of the working terrier shows and have practiced at homw hoping to bring them out for it this year, treatment permitting. Cant wait.
Hatty - you’ll get addicted to racing them if they love it as much as mine do! If they have to race in muzzles, make sure they’re used to it beforehand! I just use the baskerville cage muzzles, so they can open their mouths and breathe!
triphazzard i havent bought muzzles yet as i wasnt sure about sizing them. We are starting a terrier racing club in the sprin so that should be fun.
Choccie thats a shame but im sure Surrey is ok… lol
troublesbrewin, i felt like that when i rode my pony the other day it took 48 hours to come on though.
Well folks against everything they say we shouldnt do im off out for a chinese tonight and sod it and the weight gain i might even have a vodke oooo what a little devil.
Just seen this lovely posting! I am working through the night so I have enjoyed reading all the replies in between calls!!
I have had horses in the past and just prior to me finding the dreaded in the April, my beloved old horse who I had, had for 26 years had to be put to sleep at the end of December, I then lost my lovely old Scottie in the June, so for the first time in my entire life I was without my beloved animals. The thing that got me through chemo was that I sourced a dog that I thought was right for me, ‘Lancashire Heelers’ and was due to collect one (I ended up with 2) the day after I finished chemo!!!
They have helped me over the past 5 years to get back out walking again and I don’t know what I would have done without them.
LANCLAS welcome aboard, one dog is never enough especially when it comes to terriers. Ive just booked my next a beaut of a patterdale chocolate and very rough coated its 3 weeks old so not long to go before i can have him. He will be my new stud dog when he grows up. LOL that will be eight dogs and i explained to other half that its much easier to own an even number for when you take them out walking phewy he accepted without further ado.
dohh ive just seen ive been having chemo brain and my typing has been shite in previous posts ha ha.
The chinese meal was fab but left me very thirsty this morning.
Best get some walking done. I get my bloods done tomorrow and im thinking they may not be right i have a runny nose which is my classic sign. Im supposed to have my first Herceptin on Tuesday and first Tax on Wednesday so its a busy week at the hospital. Wish they would accept dogs up there but theres a big sign that says NO DOGS…
also it says thieves operate in this area personally i would rather have a surgeon operate but each to there own i suppose. ha ha later folks.
