Having had a WLE and removal of nipple last September-some say partial mastectomy. I wasn’t offered reconstuction at the time as they were unsure what the results would show.I am now planning to see the Plastic Surgeon re reconstruction.
Please could you advise what will be the best type of reconstruction?
Many thanks in advance.
I have put for you below the link to BCC’s Reconstruction animation which shows different forms of reconstruction. I hope you find this useful and interesting. Don’t forget you are welcome to phone the helpline here and have a chat with the nurses about reconstruction procedures.
Hi Finny
I had a mastecomy in November '10 and an immediate reconstruction with an implant. I’m pleased with the result. In a bra it looks the same as the other. I choose it because otherwise I would have two places which were healing and I didn’t fancy the possible loss of function of other areas either.
I can’t feel much on the surface of my ‘new’ breast but I do think it was the right reconstruction for me. Hope that helps
It’s very difficult for us to make any specific suggestions about you, as we’re all different sizes and shapes and have different lifestyles, and those who have had mastectomies have had different types of ops too.
You may need to get your initial guidance from your surgeon and discuss the various options (the recon link that Jo has posted is very clear to show you what the options are), and perhaps your BCN can put you in touch with ladies who have had similar kinds of first ops to see what they’ve gone for for their reconstructions.
