Hi all,
I wondered if anyone could give me some advice please regarding my situation as I have no idea what’s going on or what to think (ok I’ll be honet I’m just thinking the worse).
My rountine mammogram came back showing ‘something’ 6 weeks ago. I had another mammogram at the breast clinic and the same thing showed up. The doctors, nurses and me can feel no lump and I have no symptoms. They sent me for an ultra sound and they couldn’t see anything on there so I ended up having a biopsy done under x-ray. After an anxious wait that result came back clear with no cancerous cells. They told me they thought what was showing was maybe a wart but they sent me for an MRI scan to look at it closer and to make sure. I thought this was going in the right direction (i.e. nothing too serious) and then my MRI results came back showing more abnormal looking areas. They then did an ultrasound looking at these other area and did a deeper biopsy in this area. (I’m also confused why theses areas didn’t show up when they did the first ultrasound two weeks ago?)
This has been 6 weeks of living hell and I’m no closer to the end. I’ve been told to come back on 7 days for the results but no one has indicated what all this means since the MRI scan. I am beyond terrified and even considering not going back next week as I can;t keep doing this.
I know people here aren’t doctors etc but can anyone shed some light on what all this MIGHT be? I’d rather have a rough idea to know what I’m facing.
Thanks!
Hi Annie Lou, they have just changed the forum so replies are very slow to come through. It is very worrying where you are now - I am just post op so lilttle energy but there is one kind of breast cancer that is hard to find on mammogram or ultra sound and that is lobular cancer. Typically this does not show as a lump but just as tissue changes… Equally though it could be a benign condition that is unusual too…
Good luck and take care
Thanks Sascha, Hope you’re recovering well and sorry you’re going through all this too.
I thought Lobular cancer was fairly invasive. If this is true, wouldn’t the first biospy where the orginial area showed up had been posititve or even inclusive? I think the worse thing is I was set to just get a date for the papilloma removed as that’s what they thought it was and the MRI was a ‘just to make sure’ test. ![]()

It all depends on where the actual cancer is - in my case I had lots of benign tissue areas as well…lobular cancer does tend to be found later as its hard to detect but on the other hand it is less likely to move to other areas of the body as it prefers breast and axilla tissue…as with everything it seems to be some positive and some negative…even with an MRI guide in my case it was really ahrd for them to find the right areas to get…
I so know how you feel, i am exhausted by uncertainty (since February for me) and I was told I had cancer for sure then not told what kind for over 2 weeks etc…and now i am waiting again to find out how aggressive it is (I suspevt very as Ki-67 was 90% when 20 is high) …
Please remember there are more chances it could be benign (80-20) as there are a lot of different kinds of tissue changes that could show something that are not necessarily cancer, but until you get the results you really will not knnow…it is so shocking when this happens to you, I so feel for you…
