Hi
I was dx triple negative in March and underwent WLE and node clearance. I had 15mm tumour and 11 clear nodes out of 12. The cancer was dx as triple negative which means HER2-, Oestrogen- and Progesterone- and therefore I have chemo and 20 sessions of rads then that is it. No tamoxifen or Herceptin.
I would like to hear for any other ladies with same dx who are/have been through treatment.
Anita
Hello Anita
Like you I was dx Jan 2nd, had a WLE on Jan 10th, I’m now half way through my chemo (3rd one yesterday), I had no lymph nodes involvement 8 clear. Its a bit daughting when you are told your Triple negative, but be rest assured its no worse than any other breast cancers, its just that we don’t have the same safety nets of further medication once our treatment is finished.
I’m 35 (34 at dx) and have two young children (6,3,) you’ll find great support on her look under the search facility at the top of the page under triple negative - keep in touch

Hi Anita I was diagnosed oct 2007 had WLE for 2.1 grade 3 tumour, (nodes clear), 3 fec 3 tax and halfway through 18 rads. I’m feeling pretty good now but do have dark days like everyone when I worry about it coming back. I am 43 and have two kids age 7 and 18 months.
Apparently there is lots of work going on to find a preventative treatment for trip neg, I have been asked to join a trial testing celecoxib which has been used successfully on another type of cancer (but I can’t remember which!) You can find my posting and other info about it if you search this site for celecoxib. No doubt you have a lot of grim treatment to come, but you do come out the other side. I was terrified of the effect that chemo might have and while I did have a few bad days following each treatment I was surprised that I bounced back to almost normal between treatments, and managed to work a lot of the time.

Hi Anita
I am triple neg…2cm lump in 2005 grade 3 1 node positive. I had mast, chemo rads. secondaries this year so on further chemo, I am 39 with a 9 year old son.
Triple neg is indeed scary…there are several chemo options and more being developed all the time. Chemo apparantly works better on triple negs so clearly is worth doing. It is a funny feeling when you get to the end of treatment and think ‘what now?’…
I hope the treatment goes well … I was certainly able to work and continue quite normally in 2005 and although i am now in the hell that is secondaries I know I was very much able to continue as usual - and there is every reason that you will too.

Hi Anita
I too am triple negative. Was diagnosed September 2007. 2cm tumour with at least one node positive which was also 2cm. I had a lumpectomy in September followed by 3 FEC and 3 TAX then had another operation in March to remove all lymph nodes in armpit. Have just finished 20 rads this week. Its been a long haul, but certainly do-able. Feeling quite tired though now and just want to get back to some normality.
I was quite sick on the FEC but OK on the TAX. I’m still quite sore in the breast and armpit area as a result of the operations but hope with time things will settle down.
Best of luck on the chemo and rads.
Janet
Hi
I am another triple negative aged 43. Dx Jan this yeat with 26mm tumour, they thought it was benign so huge shock to find it cancer grade 3. I decided to have a mastectomy in Feb and had full axillary clearance with 2 nodes positive out of 13.
I am not sure how many rads I will have as not decided yet. I am on TACT2 trial and having accelerated chemo which I am half way through. I have down days but then who doesn’t with bc. I have 2 youngsters aged 6yrs and 18mnths and a yum hubby. I have met quite a few triple negative ladies who are doing pretty good years down the line.
I am positive about my future and I know it can come back but so can people with hormone receptive cancer.
Good luck Anita, its all doable…

Hi All
Thanks for your stories on your treatment. I think I’m trying to visualise too far down the line at the moment and scaring myself because I know that trip neg is a harder one to beat. I am now finding myself worrying that it may come back before my treatment is completed to get rid of it!
Up to now I have coped with it all very well (sometimes I feel too well) but this week have found that I am experiencing more ‘dark’ thoughts than usual. Maybe due to the fact I have had my period this week - maybe not???
Paula500, Sharon, Jan, Janet and Paula43 - please keep in touch with updates on how you are doing.
Jan - hope your treatment gets rid of it totally this time
Thanks again
Anita

I was diagnosed May 2007 Triple neg had three 5cm lumps and 21 out of 24 nodes involved. Had TAC chemo and rads in January. Just had 3 month clinic with Onc and dont have to go back for 12 months so fingers are crossed.

I was dx triple negative in October 2006.2cm grade 2 IDC.Had WLE chemo-4xFEC 4xTaxotere then 15 rads.Nodes clear and clear margins.I am 64 now,62 at dx.Trip neg scares me cos of stats re recurrence but its not the worst and there are new treatments all the time. Its true that its supposed to respond well to chemo and it is also said that if you get to 8years disease free it is less likely to come back than positive cancers.

Jackie B - I’ve been looking for you!!! I have medullary too!!! Mine was almost 5 cm but no nodes affected although one node was very big.
Like you I have 4 x FEC and 4 x TAX - have had the FEC and am waiting for TAX 2.
Sorry to hear about your wound infection - hope it clears up soon. Do you know of anyone else with Medullary cancer?
Sorry to hear you have it but glad to find someone else if you kow what I mean.

FizBiz.
What exactly is medullary breast cancer? I ask because on the letter sent to my doctor and copied to me it mentions that one of my breast tumours (I had 3 'cos I’m greedy, lol) was of a “medley” pattern? I am now wondering if this is a mistranscription by the typist for medullary!

Hi FizBiz
I don’t know anyone else who has or has had this type of BC. I was at hospital today and unfortunately the infection is still there but they have said that I should be ready to start 2 weeks today - yipeeeeee! Never ever thought I would be saying that about chemo, but there you go! How was your FEC? Did you have many side effects? Have you lost your hair? Sorry too many questions. Just nice to ‘talk’ to someone else who knows what it’s like.

Hi justme
Medullary cancer is a rare type where the cells are bigger and more clearly defined. It looks different from the ‘normal’ type but as I said before the treatment is very similar. I don’t know if that helps but it’s as much as I know. Good luck.
Jackie B
Hi “justme”
Well - from what I read on the internet it’s called meduallary as when it’s cut open it resembles the insides of a brain … when I read that I thought of when we say that men thing with their ****s - so have I been thinking with my tits …?? … better than thinking with my real brain these days !!!
someone else told me (am trying to remember who) that it can grow in a clear way i.e. the edge is well defined … (any comments anyone ?)
I also read on the internet that some experts don’t believe it’s a different type of cancer - just a variation on one of the the others …
Medullary is always double negative - no recptors for hormones - but if you have triple negative it doesn’t necesarily mean it’s medullary
Then I gave up looking and reading as I was getting nowhere fast!
If you find out any more please let me know … if you’ve got it too we can be triplets instead of twins …
From what i’ve read it;snot a bad thing to have - given the cirumstances of having cancer …
good luck

Hi JackyB - thanks for writing back - all hair new is on the thread “OK so who’s still got hair!” … chapter and verse … and all my side effects are on “Anyone starting chemo”
the main thing is not to worry - you learn how it will be for you in the first cycle - then it makes it easier to plan your life around it
all “doable” as they say - although boy will i be pleased when it’s all over!
lots of love
