hi any tips or things i should know i start my 5 years tonight. its like a jail sentance but dont get cut short for good behaviour. thanks in advance julie
Hi Julie
Just like you, I start my five years tonight! (Well, am going to wait until the morning actually!) The onc thinks I am now post menopausal (thanks to the chemo), and he is putting me on Arimidex as concerned about DVTs as I’ll be making lots of long flights between Australia and UK. Are you taking Tamoxifen or Arimidex? Of course you read all the side effects, but I’m just going to wait and see what happens (hopefully not much!). Five years sounds a long time, but these are wonderful improvements in the treatment of breast cancer for those of us who are lucky enough to benefit from them. Let’s think of them as extra insurance! Good luck. Sarah.
Ladies, i took my first Femara last night. I was scared taking it but did it anyway. Now its just watch and wait…
no side effects to report as yet took tamoxifen at bed time. i have started hot and cold flushes but started that two weeks ago so perhaps chemo has kicked in and stopped my little friend visiting once a month hope so.
…and I took my first Arimidex last night after all, reckoned the sooner I got started the sooner I would finish! Funny feeling isn’t it, the first one, thought I felt a bit nauseous in the night but then thought I was probably imagining it. Felt totally normal all day, and hopefully will go on feeling that way! Pineapple - how’s your hair this days? I have given up my wig for good as of yesterday…(very proud of my one inch hair!). Keep taking the tablets girls!!
Seabird - my hair seem to stop thickening but the last few days looks like its started up again. I kept fogetting to pop my brewers yeast and went back down to 2 a day but the last week taking full dose and am sure this is making a difference. I could be imagining it but dont think so. Still go a long way to go but maybe one day!
It was really weird getting the new femara out of its packet last night - looked like ‘the pill’ used to look and different colour. I feel normal at the moment but i will know for sure afew months down the line. I must admit i prefer taking these because they have less chance of blood clot etc so thats a plus.
…that’s just what it reminded me of, taking “the pill” for years and years so many years ago! Can’t say I gave side effects a second thought in those care free days!
Hi all you hormone babes , s**t scared to take Tamoxifen to be blunt but I have promised the DR I will start two weeks before the end of Rads. Two weeks down three to goUGH. I’m flippin exhausted all the time. Let me know how you all get on , need encouragement. Love Bobbiexxx
Corsa,
I started tamoxifen 3 wks ago and only get night sweats so far - nothing else although I might start taking it at night, if I remember! I started rads this week and find the journey the worse bit.
Just think at the middle of next week you’ll be half way through and counting down to the finish. I think you finish sooner than me.
Keep your chin up.
Jo
Hi Toffee /JO Thanks for getting back to me . The journey is a pig although my OH
drives. I would’nt have the energy!!! I did it for him in 2006 , when he had 4 weeks rads. I finish on the 24th July , started on the 19th June. Hope you are coping ok with your Rads?? Sometimes I think I might wake up and find all this a dream but no chance, because I was diagnosed in Oct and had my op in Nov, It all seems never ending. Lots of love Bobbiexx
