I’m just turned 28, started Tamoxifen 6 months ago, no disruption to my periods and no side effects. I too was initially told Zoledex and Arimadex was in my notes by the registra and the likely form of treatment, but was then told by my oncologist, that the stats on how effective it is in PRE- menopausal women are still out there, hence the discision for Tamoxifen.
All the best, Lisa.
I’m 47 am I to old !! been on Tamoxifen 5 months, still having periods, came back with avengence still no sweats.
Hiya,
just had a phone call from my trials nurse. She has checked with my onc and its defo gonna be Tamoxifen for me! He says there was some research done a while ago which suggested that Arimidex may be better for women who are HER2+ however there has been a bit of a turnaround and there’s further research to suggest Tamoifen is best for pre-meno women. I’m just glad I know whats what now.
So, Tamoxifen here I come!!!
Thanks for all your responses,
Kelly

I am going to be starting with this as soon as the chemo is over…well two weeks after so the ONC says. Think I shall take mine with milk and at night after reading this. My chillo has been great so far with the night sweats that I have been having with the chemo and I have been thinking about getting another one! Just an excuse to sleep naked Isuppose!
i am 35 starting tamoxifen on 1st October and radiotherapy on 8th October
Jools
Hi jools,
sounds like we’re 2 peas in a pod!!! Well, almost, I still have one more cycle of CMF to get through first. I don’t know about you but I am a little nervous about starting Tamoxifen but at the same time am grateful that I am able to take it.
Good luck with the rads. I have my last chemo on Weds 10th oct (bloods permitting!) then am due to start rads and Tamox about 3 weeks later. Let me know how you get on,
Take care,
Kelly

Hi
I have just finished 2 years of Novaldex and Zoladex, I started on Tamoxifen but the sweats were really bad so transferred to Novaldex, although it is the same drug as Tamoxifen some women including me find it a better drug to deal with. If you do experience side effects you can try different things, it was suggested to me that I split the pill take half in the morning and half at night or the full dose before bed. I also found that my diet played a big part, eat loads of good stuff, greens, pulses, fruit, fish and not so much fatty, dairy, meat (especially red meat) caffeine and alcohol, I know all the stuff that keeps us going! but the weeks when I followed a strict diet were much better than when I lapsed, also try to exercise. Good luck xx Claire
Hi Claire,
thats great advice, thanks v.much. Its useful to know there is a poss alternative to Tamoxifen for us younger ladies if needs be,
Many thanks,
Take care,
Kelly

Hi
Sorry everyone - I’d forgotten that I’d posted in this forum - oops!!!
Ty so much for all the congratulations messages on the birth of my Whopper!!!
Cheers
Anne
I’m sorry but I must put you all in the picture - I have re-read my earlier posting and I have mis-led, I suppose.
When we went to the fertility clinic, the snr gynae bloke was really horrible to us. We came out suicidal!!! After so many years of waiting to try for a baby, his attititude was ‘what on earth are you doing here? You’ve had cancer - it could come back and then you’d leave your child motherless’ We really couldnt believe what he’d said and were delighted to suceed in getting pregnant and prove him wrong.
BUT he was right. I had my boy by c-section on Tuesday and on Thursday, my breast cons told me that the cancer was back - bone mestases in hip/pelvis and patch on rib.
I had suffered with a pulled muscle behind my rib at about 5 months, followed by sciatica, followed by the pulled muscle again. The gynae medical staff put them both down to the extra weight on my left hand side (surgery had been on my right btw). It was right at the end of pregnancy when I couldnt weight-bear that it was realised that something was wrong and this is why I was booked in for a section, so they could do MRI, CT and bone scan to confirm.
I resented my baby for about 2 days - I didnt want to get close to him - I wasnt going to be around for him.
After stern words from my husband, I had to get my act together.
I feel awful writing this post, but feel that I have got to put you in the picture.
If I hadnt got pregnant, would they have found the cancer?
It is a question that I will never know the real answer to.
My baby is a miracle.
PLEASE PLEASE BE AWARE OF ANY ACHES AND PAINS and take this to your specialist or BCN.
