Need some advice! Been to see my breast surgeon today, I’m due to have LD surgery on my left breast in next couple of weeks or so and am wondering if I should have a reduction on my right (I have 36DD breasts) at the same time? He said he will do this if I wish and has done this in the past, but he suggested I waited - you thoughts please ladies!
i had an ld extended recon with implant in sept I am size 38d, I am going to have an uplift and slight reduction on otherside next year.
My surgeon does not do them at the same time as the ld recon needs to settle into position, this enables them to get the best match possible, I will also have a nipple done at the same time so they match.
my recon has dropped since surgery and softened up.
i am slightly higher and a bit smaller on oneside but I am so happy with the recon,it is not noticable when I am wearing clothes.
I waited 18 months from mastectomy as I had to let the radiotherapy scarring settle so another 6 months to get the best result is something I can do.
I would say wait till you have the recon done you will know then if you need an uplift or reduction.Hope this helps.
Ask to see photos of his work, I was shown some before and afters this helps greatly.
I’m going in for left LD recon on Friday. My surgeon said to wait to see how it settles before sorting my right one to match. He’ll do an uplift and also reduction if needed. I probably will as I’ve decided against an implant I’m a 34c. However a friend had hers done in July with a different surgeon and he reduced her other boob at the same time, It’s still a bit bigger than the recon so in Dec she’s having lipo - suction on the recon to match it.She has bigger boobs than me so I may get away with just lipo-suction, my main aim at the mo is to have my own left boob again to put in a bra rather than the prothesis! yay!
Kernowdaisy - From your user name am I right in thinking you’re in Cornwall like me?!
Thanks ladies. I’m in on Saturday for surgery, very quick so I’ve not much time to think too much about it. I have decided to wait and have reduction next year. Good luck Friday!!
Yes I am in cornwall,I hope your recon op goes well fudge.
It is wonderful having a boob back, looking down and seeing a cleavage is healing in itself.
Thanks those few words have actually made me even more excited!!! and also dispell alot of the apprehension thats crept in in the last few days! Bound to really I suppose!
I keep telling myself that lots of women have had recons done and almost all the feedback is positive so I’m looking foward to joining you all!

i am now 9 weeks down the road from recon, at first you feel like you have been runover, but the care you will get at the hosp is fantastic the nurses are wonderful. As i am sure you know. I stayed in for 8 days.I am feeling 100% better now and ready hopefully to return to work in 2 weeks.I would do it again without hesitation.
get your self a wedge shaped cushion/pillow to sleep on when you get home as lying down is uncomfortable, My husband got me an inflatable one from the internet on “all things inflatable.com” we did have a laugh about him going on that site as I wanted to know what he was really shopping for!!!
