I am really confused my onco wrote to me saying I need to start Goseerelin (Zoladex) and to arrange with Doctor. I have just picked up prescription and was given Triptorelin. I have spoke to pharmacist who has never used this for breast cancer! I also spoke to doctor who said it was just as my Hospital and Doctors come under different NHS Boards they use different drugs! I just have a real uneasy feeling about it as its not s drug mentioned on here!
That doesn’t sound right. In this country it appears only to be used for fibroids, endometriosis and early puberty in women, but its main use is for prostate cancer. The only refs to it on NHS websites or within NICE guidelines is for those uses, no mention of it for breast cancer. I’d question that VERY strongly and insist on being given the Zoladex.
Found some more info - according to the Cancerhelp website there is research under way into the use of Triptorelin for breast cancer. But it still doesn’t sound like you should have been prescribed it, unless you are participating in trials.

Thanks Sarah for your reply.
I have contacted my BCN and she has spoke to consultant who advises me not to be given Triptorelin as they only know it to be used for prostate cancer, as you mentioned! I am waiting to speak to Doctor who I have to convince its the wrong drug!

Hi Tedoris
I’m glad you’ve queried that, it really didn’t sound a good idea to be given Triptorelin. I hope they sort it out quickly for you, then you can look forward to the joy of the monthly Zoladex injections…! Actually I’ve found they’re nothing like as bad as some people have said. If you look at the other threads under this section, many of us have very little trouble with either the injection or the side effects. Good luck with it.
