Hi Everyone. Always a good place to come to for advice! I had my second FEC yesterday and saw the onc at the same time. Mentioned just at the end that I had been hoping to fly fom Australia (where we are on a three year posting) to UK for my son’s half term in February (he is 16 and at boarding school in UK). Said I had realised that would not be possible. Well, you could have knocked me down with a feather - he said “go for it, do it”. Just as well my husband was there as my witness! There were no ifs or buts and no a moment’s hesitation. Have been given antibiotics to take in case I develop a fever, and of course instructions to head to hospital the other end if that happened. He said he is happy because I am going somewhere with good medical care. Timing is fine - one week after last FEC (although blood count could be lower then) and two days before first Taxotere. Well of course I am so excited now, as is my son and mother, but there is a niggly bit in me that wonders if I am being totally mad embarking on two flights (total travel time 36 hours each) just now. It’s tough at the best of times! Your experiences please! Many thanks Sarah x
Not done it myself, having only started…but GO FOR IT you…
You probably won’t get any insurance though if complications cause you to miss you flight or something, but that’s likely to be the least of your worries, I know it’s at the bottom of my list at the mo.
Let us know what you decide, I hope someone on here can give you a more experiential post.
Love
Ang xx
I was on FEC and Taxol and inbetween treatments would fly over to my son’s home in the west of Ireland.I know it’s a far cry from Australia, but I was on my own and the old planes I used to catch from Wales to Cork airport were like crates. They were so bumpy I couldn’t even do my crossword puzzle! On one occasion I was wondering why I had the journey all to myself when the pilot told me of the oncoming storm we were going to climb over!! I think that being on chemo made me feel as if I was indestructable -or maybe it just brought out all the courage I never knew I had! You certainly wouldn’t get me up in one of them now!
