Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi. Thanks for info on fake tan! And it is bizarre to bother about white legs when we have no hair!! But little things help, I seem to have had a spurt of activity today: worked in the morning, mowed my lawn, walked my dogs and hoovered!! Think I will pay for it later though. Hope everyone is coping ok,
Kirstie77 I followed your nightmare first dose and being in hospital so it’s not surprising you are cautious about going out! I feel the same as you and seem to be taking it too far and hardly daring it go out around people, I too miss my glass of red wine and asked the oncologist last week and she said a small glass once to twice a week will be fine as long as liver function ok, I used to love coffee and now can’t even stand the smell of it, I am finding if a real struggle to drink the fluids every day.

Kirstie77 maybe if it’s out of your low immune days you could go on the outdoor places: Alton towers or Woburn, at least outside the germs are not so bad!! I think we are at similar point in chemo, my next one is Thursday 15 th May, think we should be a bit braver; look at Rosie flying over from Cyprus and others too seem to have a social life, bring on the anti bac hand gel!!

Kirsty I’ve been out at least once a week & more often than not twice a week since I started cheno on April 1st. I’ve been our for dinner, out to the pub, to gigs and my regular rock & bike nights. If I know someone has a cold I don’t hug them and I don’t share drinks with anyone but other than that I’ve carried on as normal. I’m used to going out every week & staying at home would drive me insane!

Kirstie! Apologise for spelling your name wrong, I should get it right as it’s my name!

Hi ladies i am going out this weekend to Whitby if I am better from infection I agree with Lovewine it’s probably best to be outdoors and we don’t want to be prisoners. Just take your anti bc gel and wipes and lets have fun. Just had first cup of tea in a week bl##dy marvellous !!!

Hey,
I know Louise 3721 its weird isn’t it but I’ve found that little things like that make all the difference to help you’re confidence whilst going through all this. I don’t normally wear make up but have been putting a bit of blusher on as feel ‘naked’ & washed out without my hair! How are you feeling now by the way after last night?
I really don’t blame you kirstie77 & love wine especially when you’ve been in hosp already! But if you think our last chemo is end if July you have to try & do things in between. I’m cautious & use anti bac gel & wash hands 247! With regards to alton towers etc like love wine says I’m sure you’ll be fine by end of next wk. I went to a big soft play centre a few days before my 2nd chemo when as far as I know your bloods have started to go back up? As for eating out I haven’t yet but suppose have a ‘pregnancy’ diet just to be safe? I’ve got something planned everyday from now until next wkend & it involves seeing people but just double check they are well & take my own bottle of drink, anti bac etc! I’m not a big drinker so don’t fancy a wine & it just reminds me of hangovers like the chemo effect! Xxxx

Hi louse 3721, I went to whitby just before I started chemo about 5 weeks ago. I love it there, stayed at robinhoods bay just down the coast!! Hope you get to go and have a lovely time!!

Hi Loveswine fingers crossed that the infection has gone will be eating fish and chips on a bench looking at the sea with a stiff breeze blowing all the germs away just going for day but its still a break x

Glad everybody seems to be thinking ahead and making plans. I find it really helps to have something to look forward to. I’ve emerged from my ‘chemo fog’, day 7 of FEC 2. It’s amazing how much better I feel today compared to 48hrs ago. I feel very torn between going out and being oober sensible. Just said no to a dinner invitation for the weekend as my son is doing some exams next week and I would feel really guilty if I picked up a bug and ended up in hospital next week. So I’m going to be boring until next weekend, then I’m letting my hubby go away for the weekend. He really deserves some fun time. I will be polishing my halo!

Hi all good to read all threads and comments.

Not sure wether I didn’t get as much advice as others or what. I didn’t get told not to work. I went in today the first time since chemo 2 on 22 April. Yep feel like rubbish def taking longer second dose. I just feel wiped out.

No specific advice re food drink or activities told take easy be careful so if I go in to london travel outside of rush hour. Did get told international travel incl Europe not good idea so all cancelled. Then pretty much don’t go in when someone has a cold. Thinking I need to be more wary. Decided I will look to be off fir first 2 weeks after chemo and half days week 3

Do have more questions when I see oncologist next Friday. The heartburn is pretty much gone but sore mouth yuck and I am sort of on soft foods Soup mashed potato yoghurt. Anyone else have this any any food suggestions. Hoping goes away soon

Should be walking more did a walk pretty much everyday on chemo 1 only 1 so far now

Best to all.

Hope everyone has a good weekend & gets out and about if they can.
Just got back from having my CT scan & chilling for a little while until my mate takes me out for a blast on his Harley this afternoon (as I’m not up to riding mine right now)
Going to a rock masquerade ball tonight & even bought a dress for the occasion (only worn a dress 3 times in last 20 years & one of those was my wedding dress) as I can’t do much with my hair and thought it might make me feel a bit more glam than I’ve been feeling lately - it will be teamed up with my bike boots though as I just don’t do shoes

I sold wine for years & do love it but the thought of even trying it right now makes me feel queasy so I’m going to stay away from it until the chemo is done

Went to Derby Cancer Care support group last night - after my weekend meltdown - and so glad I did. Met a lady from the same town as me who’s 10 years clear & also got to talk to a BCN from a different hospital to mine who’s answered lots of questions for me. She also told me that cold capping is my choice & to stand my ground and not let them persuade me to stop as long as I have a covering of hair. All in all I’m entering the weekend in a much more positive frame of mind.

Hi Smokeclouds great news that u have found some good solid support with that group I too am near Derby and may give that a go. Love the idea of the dress think it will be a triumph especially with the boots.

This may be a bit personal ladies but how is every one dealing with the financial imlications ? I work for v small family firm. The contract i have states they only have to pay for 4 weeks sick in a 12 month period then its down to 100 per week ssp . However because i have been there 7 years and made them money they are continuing to pay my normal wage for which I am extremely grateful . However this could change at anytime and since I am in sales it is just my basic without the average £300 per month commission. Obviously there must be some of us out there who have this added financial stress x

Hi louise3721. Yes I too agree with your worry of financial pressures, I am self employed and run/ran a really busy , successful ironing business which made me a very good living, but no work , no income! - so I am having to work even tho it’s now part-time due to financial pressures( mortgage etc are only interested in you keeping up with the payments!) on top of all the other worries it’s not easy.
Smoke clouds, you sound like you are having a good day today! Hope the ball goes well and am sure the dress looks great!
I have painful throat ulcers come on today, everything I swallow is like glass, have diffliam but doesn’t seem to be helping, hope everyone else has a good weekend as possible!! X

P.s I am in Leicestershire so not far away from you both… Am going to see if there is a support group local to me too.

Lovewine so sorry to hear about your throat have u tried fresh pineapple as its natural antiseptic has to be fresh though banana also very good as potassium kills the bacteria. Don’t forget don’t suffer in silence as these can get infected quick if in doubt ring your emergency number as its bank holiday and tackle it bfore it becomes a problem xx

Louise3721, thanks for the tips. Am going to eat a banana now and send hubby out for pineapple! X

Get some icepoles too they help x

Thankyou! Hope you enjoy fish and chips at Whitby! X

Kirstie your situation re finance is pants you would think that as we are working people you could get more help I find it all very upsetting blimey the least they can do is pay you a decent rate. After all once we have all gone thru this it will be a pre existing medical condition and insurance against future loss of earnings will either not be offer or inaffordable However I am speaking to my gas and electric company as i have been told you do get a prepreferential rate if u can prove you are a cancer patient anyone else heard this?

Evening ladies

Lovewine my mouth has been sore so I went to the docs today and she gave me some medication but advised me one of the best things you can do is swill with bicarbonate soda,  upto four times a day. She said its a really good anti inflammatory. The financial side of things are shocking,  I work fulltime and earn a decent wage, I moved from a local authority job two years ago which I had been at for 12 years and had full cover of 12 months sick. Unfortunately in my new position and only 2 years service I only had 3 months sick pay. This is really difficult as where missing about £1600  a month. We do have a small amount of savings but really am concerned about things financially.  Its something you cant imagine happening and because we own our house and my husband works we dont qualify for anything,  unless I can get ESA contribution based. I have therefore chosen to work as much as possible through chemo and just hope I can continue.

By the way ladies if anyone wants any extra support as well as this wonderful site I am a member of a small private FB page if anyone would like to join. The lady who created it dud mention it ages ago but not as many ladies were on the thread. I use both and enjoy having both points of support.  If anyone would like the details just inbox me.

Got my wig yesterday for the weekend just incase it all drops, its lovely,  my hubbie and son said its better than my own hair !!! I went for a long one and was really nervous it might look cheap but honestly its great. I paid a bit extra as the cap is lighter and softer, all in it came to £220 , pressie from mum and dad.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Take care

Louise x
