Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Oh dear Lovewine, you have been having a trying couple of days. No-one needs such additional expenses this close to Christmas. I hope your son feels happier with his next interviews.

Cassie, your carol concert sounds lovely, something like that does help to put one in a Christmas mood. I love the idea of putting food for the dogs in a doggy bag. Hope it’s found before too long. I’ve only managed one xmas card so far but have nearly finished the decorations apart from the greenery. Had ambitions to make a wreath this year, using the base from last years, which is made of willow but we will see.

Rosie, I’m going to congratulate you on finishing the Herceptin, even though I know you feel ambivalent about stopping the regular treatment. It’s Nother stage successfully completed and your journey has been particularly long and troubled. You have my sympathies about the mobile phone, technical problems drive me to distraction. At the moment I’m trying to work out how to increase the volume of my ring tone since I keep missing calls. You would think that would be straightforward but… No doubt I’m just being thick.

We had some worrying news last night-YD’s in-laws had a car accident last night and they’re both in hospital. She is the more badly injured and is in intensive care. Fortunately the bleed in her brain has stopped and she is conscious and able to speak so it doesn’t look as if that is as serious as first thought but she has a broken pelvis and is likely to have surgery later today. So our arrangements for the next few days are likely to be rather fluid. Complicated by the fact that SIL is here. Anyway, we can’t do any more till later and SIL is out seei g friends and other family so I’m going out to lunch with friends.

Joan, I echo Rosie’s well wishes for YDs in laws- what a worry for the family, I do hope they are recovering now… Just shows how fragile life can be doesn’t it. Hope you enjoyed your lunch.
Rosie, hope DH has recovered and you enjoyed the school play, also partaking in the fish and chips!!
Really hectic day, shortlisted a couple of cars to view tomorrow?, can’t say I am very enthusiastic about it!

Hello Ladies,

The Christmas cards written and were posted on Tuesday and so should have arrived by now, I still have some presents to buy but the food shopping on line is all done due to arrive on the 22nd so I will have time to pick up anything that I have forgotten, I know I will have.

I am off to my exercise class soon aparently McMillan are going to film today, I am not sure about that, you can opt out of course, we will see how I feel when I get there.

I do feel sorry for GS & ED still in temporary accomodation especially at this time of the year, lets hope this will be the last Christmas that they have to be there, of course they will be with me for the day but I am sure you know what I mean.

I have pest control coming later today, no sign of the mouse recently, but it has managed to eat the peanut butter in the traps without getting caught! poor thing, so its definately about.

Have a good weekend ladies

Sounds a lovely trip Rosie, the weather has been awful all weekend here, rained continually?, I managed my car trip ok, heavy traffic and driving in the city was a good introduction to a different car- heavy rain too! I found the wipers, but couldn’t get the heater right, ended up driving with window half open until I could sort it out as very steamed up???!! Hated the busy shops, only stayed an hour and will do what’s left online ?.

Morning Ladies,

The mouse was caught sometime between the pest control guy coming on Friday and Saturday afternoon when I checked, very odd it was caught in a trap with nothing in it! All I can guess is the poor thing must have got bigger and therfore set the trap off, I hope there are no more.

I have a bit more shopping to do not much, what a relief.

Best make tracks off to work Cassie

At last I have half an hour to sit down and check in. SIL left this morning and so far today we are not required to do child care, which will be the first since Thursday.  Other GPs are both still in hospital, fortunately now the same one. She is out of intensive care and although she has extensive injuries in the way of broken bones is doing well. His injuries were worse than initially thought, he broke three bones in his neck and had to have an op. At the moment he can’t swallow and has fluid on the lung. GD is also, poorly so is off school, missing her Christmas play.

Cassie, glad you got rid of the mouse. Sounds as if you’re doing extremely well on the xmas prep. How did the filming at your exercise class go?

lovewine, you have a busy time ahead. Great news about YS, he’s done very well, it’s a very prestigious university and the competition must have been fierce. you must be so,proud as well as relieved. Good news about the car. I’ve also found myself in the embarrassing position of not knowing where things are or how to work them. Mine was opening the filler cap. fWell done for getting the Tesco slot. I managed to leave it too late to book a delivery so will be fighting the crowds next week. Also have to revise xmas catering plans (such as they were, more or less cook xmas dinner then live on leftovers till ED and partner arrive on the Tuesday). Now YD & family are going to be here at least until Sunday and probably longer, which will make it easier for the parents to do the hospital visiting.

Wildpurl, hope you are having an easier week. Not long to go until you are off.

Rosie, thanks for the advice about volume control. Unfortunately that doesn’t work for my phone but in the process discovered that if I hold down a button on the side it brings up an icon. ( I’ve only had the phone for a year! ) you must be counting the days till you see your family. So glad things seem to be going better.

Off now for an hours me-time at Qi Gong, the last of the year sadly.

Good od weeks everybody.

Morning Ladies,

I am off work today and typically could not sleep then recieved a text just after 7 to say a parcel had been dispatched, very annoying seeing as I get them all delivered to work anyway!

I have a couple more days off before Chrisrmas so any last minutes shopping can be done.

I was filmed and did a short interview for McMillan which I believe is going to be on Utube and maybe another couple of sites its for fund raising and text santa are involved with ITV, but they said it would not be on TV, which I felt happier with.

Rosie how frustrating the insurance lady not calling back and the bank closing down, you don’t have much luck do you. I hope the hair appointment goes well, I had a trim on saturday and the hairdresser thinks my hair is thicker than ever.

Lovewine good luck with your very bust week and well done to get your Tesco delivery slot.

Joan I hope the In laws soon rally it must be very worrying for you all.

Best wishes to all ladies and don’t get too stressed with Christmas prep we all need to take time to relax as well x

Morning Rosie, I can’t believe either how quickly the time has flown, this date was sadly the one we lost our cousin too- he was only 17 and had a fatal motorcycle accident many years ago now but it devastated our family and my aunt never recovered from the shock and died of cancer a year later.
The weather here is still mild for December- so hopefully you won’t need too many jumpers in your luggage! What did you have done to your hair? It certainly makes us feel better after a trip to the hairdressers?:scissors:.
It’s going to take me hours to deliver today as my clients have asked if I would stay for coffee and mince pie?- I have 8 to deliver!! So a coffee and pie at each one will mean I will need the loo and be feeling sick by the time I reach client 8 ???:coffee:?!!

Hello Ladies,

It is very mild here still in London about 18 degrees today, it does not feel Christmassy at all.

Work has been a nightmare as usual because I covered reception while some staff did a training session in my room, its really a two person job but as usual someome was off sick again…so  good old me managed eating lunch on the go which I hate to do.

I have had one day off this week on Tuesday and I have three more days next Mon & Tues, so a long, long weekend this week, then back to work for two days Weds & Thurs then off till 5th Jan, I decided to break up the days because I just cannot cope with the backlog of work when I am off for longer periods.

I have not managed to find the interview on utube yet, they did say it would be on next Tues maybe they meant next Tues lol.

Lovewine I would not envy you with the prospect of those mince pies, very windy.

The last but one of the presents has now arrived and I am pleased with them, now just the wrapping to do, and hoping that the food shopping arrives on Tues eve complete. Night ladies x

Sitting in the soft play centre hoping to get enough time to post while OH is keeping an eye on grandson. If this message ends abruptly you’ll know why!

Very busy week since GD has been off school poorly. Got Most of yesterday off because dad was at home and managed to finish the present wrapping, make a pudding to serve to friends for dinner tomorrow night, assemble the fort we are  giving to GS (2 hours, we are not good at these things), visit the garden centre, and make up guest beds before heading over to YD to help with kids. While dad was out. Collapsed into bed at 11.

News on i other gps is mixed but better than it might have been. Granny appears to be doing well and may be transferred out of the trauma unit to a local hospital  that seems positive but it will make visiting much more difficult. grandad is more immediately worrying, he is still bro go tube fed and they can’t seem to get his chest infection under control. Hopefully he will start improving soon.

wildpurl, good news on your daughters op.  Hopefully you will get a good rest over xmas.

Rosie, have a lovely Christmas with the various parts of your family. Your travel arrangements sound challenging so I hope you will get plenty of opportunities to rest. It will be so thrilling to see your new grandchild in the flesh and see for yourself how things are.

cassie, you do seem to get rather put on at work. Hopefully your long weekend will be restful and set you  up for Christmas. You do seem super organised. having missed the delivery slots I am Aiming to do a big shop tomorrow morning and do the final bits on Tuesday. Just one present to sort out, for SIL. Usually there is something practical he needs, like an obscure tool, but this year he hasn’t suggested anything and I haven’t felt able to press him in the circs. But yesterday my daughter said he had mentioned wanting some Afghan type slippers. So the search is on. He’s size 11 though and they appear scarce, at least on line.

!ovewine. You survived your mince pie ordeal and have lots of wine to look forward to. What a shame you didn’t feel up to the champagne soirée but as you say nice to be asked. I’m a great fan of the Peter James books, but sad,y I think I have probably read them all now.  I love the ones that are a series, a,ways the next one to look forward to. I’ve bed. Restraining myself from buying the new Rebus in case someone gets it for me for xmas but if it isn’t there I shall be ordering It immediately on Kindle.

Well, I’m amazed I’ve got this far without interruption. Now hoping that I don’t lose it all.

Good afternoon ! Joan, well done on completing the post whilst in a challenging environment of the soft play area, you have had a hectic week, good luck with the slipper hunting- maybe Edinburgh woollen mill shop!?  The situation with the other GPs sounds very stressful, must be very worrying for you all.

Rosie, your travel arrangements sound quite exhausting, but lovely to see all of the family after quite a long time, at least you can rest between journeys hopefully.

Wildpurl, good news your DD is doing well, it will be nice for you to have her with you over christmas, hope your first day off has gone ok and you got done what you needed too!

Cassie, you sound very capable, but as Joan says you do seem to have a lot on your plate at work, i totally understand not taking too much time off at once- i have such an enormous backlog if i do that i dont think its worth the hassle!

i have taken doggie for chemo, seems happy and stable, white cells a bit low, but not enough to delay chemo, just plodding on from week to week with him as long as he’s happy and healthy, which he is at the moment- not sure how long for though.

i am going to make some mince pies later( joans recipe!) and also make the spiced red cabbage and freeze it!

i often think of all the April 2014 ladies who started at the same time, i hope you are all staying well and are happy? Sending you all the very best for christmas and new year??.

rosie, your nails sound very splendid. I do hope they last. You must make sure you do t have to do any dishwashing or domestic chores while you are away. Mine are deep plum at the moment but without the glitter.  Cross though because I broke one a couple of days ago so it rather spoils the effect. On the other hand it makes it clear that my nails are real not false. I have been asked!  Hope the journey goes well. It sounds as if your OH is definitely in the festive mood now.

Wildpurl, I’m relieved you like the mince pies.  Do you know yet if your daughter will definitely be out of hospital tomorrow.

Lovewine, it’s good that the chemo went ahead and that things are stable with your dog hopefully you can put it to the back of your mind over xmas.

Feeling rather shattered today. The last week catching up with me I guess, plus a rather disturbed nights sleep. So having done the big xmas shop this morning, and no call so farc to ask us to have the children, I intend to spend a couple of hours on the sofa. We have friends  coming to dinner tonight but apart from last minute assembly and a quick bit of cooking it’s all done. And fortunately I no longer have to track down size 11 slipper socks, SIL has come up with a new tool he wants and he will do  the ordering (he rightly doesn’t trust us to get it right).

Have a good weekend everyone.

Rosie, glad you are safely arrived in France and didn’t miss your connection despite the delay. Great that Eurostar offered compensation immediately, very impressive. Best news of all though that the new family are settling down and you got a welcoming smile from grandson.

Wildpurl, double good news for you. Excellent.  I had a phone call this morning from the hospital where I had the surgery saying they needed to book me on for a CT scan. Immediately threw me into a bit of panic. Turns out its a lung scan in relation, I assume, to an irritating cough I have had for years, which was diagnosed as asthma. I think I have now been referred to a cough clinic. The woman on the phone offered me an appointment either tomorrow or Wednesday evening, which I declined. It’s not exactly urgent.

Lovewine, glad you too liked the mincepies. The only hope though is to get them in the freezer quickly. I hope you won’t be completely exhausted after working for 10 hours.

Things are looking up for the in-laws, the new antibiotic seems to be dealing with the chest infection and the hospital is now planning to move them both from the trauma unit, which serves the whole of the South west, to  their local(ish) hospital soon.

i had a not very successful day yesterday with pre xmas ‘cooking’. My ‘white chocolate and clementine bombe’   needs to be renamed white chocolate, clementine and cling film bombe’ and my chocolate and grand marnier truffles are distinctly ‘artisan’ and I think will have to be served straight from the freezer (or eaten with a spoon’. It all tastes very nice though. My last minute shopping list is getting longer and longer and my intention to plan the meals for at least some of the next 10 days Has come to naught, I can’t seem to think beyond, at a stretch, Boxing Day. Fortunately, although in other ways I think it’s a shame, the supermarkets only seem to close now for xmas day itself. Meanwhile, what to do with GD on Wednesday and what to give her to eat. It can’t be fish fingers, they’re having that on xmas Eve because we’re all lunching out before the carol concert. Ah well, minor worries.

Lovewine, I’m not surprised you fell asleep yesterday, hope today is not quite as long and exhausting.

Rosie, your day sounds really lovely. Did you buy anything at the xmas market or just soak up the atmosphere (as well as the mulled wine). Years ago we used to go out carol singing for charity on xmas eve and then everybody came back here for mince pies and mulled wine. It really marked the start of xmas. Haven’t made it for years though. Thanks for the suggestions about food for GS.Unfortunately she doesn’t like eggs or beans, so I think it will have to be pasta again. re in laws, I think the plan is to move them before xmas. Sadly I imagine they need to free up as many beds as possible in the trauma unit ready for all the casualties which will come in over xmas.

hopefully we have a relatively easy day today before full on grandchildren start tomorrow. Finished the green decorations, about to tackle the ‘final’ supermarket shop, then acupuncture in Bristol. Might even manage a bit of meditation, which will the first time for two weeks, haven’t been swimming or to the gym either but that will have to wait until the New Year, joining all the people fulfilling their new years resolutions.

Cassie, hope you are not too exhausted after your hectic time at work. I imagine your xmas isn’t going to be that relaxing either.

have you all seen the request on the board for ladies 50+to take part in research on how the media present stories about Cancer?

Hello Ladies,

Glad you arrived OK in France Rosie it must be lovely getting together with family, Joan your food in the freezer sounds tasty even though its not exactly as expected and lovewine you will be due a rest your life work balance is not balancing at the moment ! I have not had my food delivery yet Rosie its due 8-9 this evening and I do hope I can fit it in the fridge it is looking rather full already but I am the best at reshuffling the freezer and fridge where there appears to be no room.

I have had a fairly relaxing couple of days off work but will be back to work tomorrow. The interview is now on line the guy who holds the exercise class sent me the link last night, I am not sure if the moderator would allow me to put it on the thread. I will give it a try and see what happens

itv.com/textsanta/saccone-jolys-on-how-macmillan-is-helping-cancer-patients-get-active

I have ben busy shopping and making braised red cabbage, I will make some mince pies today.

Have a good Christmas if I don’t manage to ge back on with the family here xx

I thought the video was very good Cassie, though I would have liked to see a bit more of you all strutting your stuff. Hope you manage to get everything In your fridge/freezer. I confess life is a .ot easier since we bought a second hand fridge to go in the garage which only gets switched on at xmas or when we have people to stay. It’s going rather rusty and the door has to be kept closed with the aid of a large bottle of water but it’s Invaluable.

wildpurl, I’m afraid I didn’t manage a meditation after all, we were Called on to help out after all. Very impressed you are continuing with the exercise. Mine has completely gone by the board.

Rosie, good luck with your onward journey. No doubt you’ve taken loads of photos of new grandson.

hectic day today trying to get most of the preparations done while looking after grandaughter.  More or less succeeded so sat down to paint my nails while drinking  a glass of port. Unfortunately managed to tip the whole lot over the table And my emery board which is now useless… Aargh. Still. Last xmas I ddnt have any nails.

SILs parents have now been moved and are sharing a double room. Rather sweet.

Busy, but rather nice day tomorrow. Bit of shopping in Wells, then lunch out with family followed by children’s service in Wells cathedral. Then all back to us and the mayhem begins. Probably my last post for a few days. Happy xmas all.

Good morning ladies, it is our wedding anniversary today! Always gets a little lost though in xmas?. YS arrived safely and is happy and settled, starts his new job at Imperial college on January 4th- so proud of him. ES and DIL will be over tomorrow too for lunch etc!
Rosie, hope you have a good trip back to UK and have no delays?
Joan, good news in laws are together, sad though they are in hospital for Xmas- enjoy the carol service and mayhem!

Cassie, hope you have a lovely time too with your family- GS must be very excited.

Wildpurl, hope DD continues to do well, enjoy your family around you too this Christmas!!

Have a lovely Christmas and a healthy 2016 to you all- Thankyou for your wonderful support all year??.

Rosie, it sounds like all your travel has gone well so far, so hope today’s has gone the same and that the visit, although it will inevitably be emotional, will not be too upsetting for you. It must have been such a wrench to leave your family in France. Lots of lovely meals, best not to think about the effects just yet. The first time I have been out of the house since xmas eve was this morning, and then only down to the supermarket. The weather is just so horrible, when it isn’t raining it’s blowing a gale. It was the port that went over, not the nail varnish, fortunately.

Wildpurl, hope you enjoyed the Nutcracker, what a lovely thing to do even if your arrangements weren’t quite what you expected. Our only cultural outing is to the pantomime.

I think this is likely to be the most peaceful day of the holidays. Grandchildren and parents left yesterday afternoon, the house felt really empty and I was at a loose end so finished up tackling the ironing! But it was rather nice to have a lie-in this morning. It was lovely to have the children here and watch them opening their presents, and they were unusually well behaved all day.

Lovewine and Rosie, Your alternative xmas meals sound lovely. We were completely traditional I’m afraid, including the pudding, but didn’t have a mince pie until last night. Tomorrow we will probably be looking after the children for at least part of the day then Tuesday I will be going to the pantomime with GD, her mum and possibly ED, if she arrives in time, otherwise my husband or SIL. all a bit uncertain for reasons which are too complicated to explain. Wednesday another big family meal, game casserole this time. in the meantime there are still leftovers to deal with even though YD took quite a bit of Turkey and ham yesterday. Fortunately YD is going to do the meal on New Years Day.

Cassie, hope you have had a lovely xmas.

Are any of you watching Dickensian on TV.

Morning ladies, Glad you arrived safely Rosie- the weather is appalling, did read on news the Tamar bridge closed to caravans, motor bikes etc?. Our fence has completely come down again?.
Take YS to station at midday and then a visit from mum and dad- will then take the tree down finally( been itching to since Boxing Day!)
Enjoy your time with your YS and GC Rosie…when do you return to Cyprus?
Wishing all ladies a very happy, HEALTHY New Year???

Good morning ladies. I’m having an indulgent morning painting my nails followed by a long bath. We had hoped to go down to Lyme Regis but the forecast is dire so OH, ED and her partner hVe gone for a local walk along the sea wall while it is still bright and sunny. Then we’re heading into Bristol for lunch at Jamie’s Italian followed by a visit to the Red Lodge, a Tudor house which later became the first girls reformatory!  Tonight Will be quiet though we shall hopefully stay up, keeping ourselves awake by playing a game ED (who is a Sherlock Holmes addict) was given for xmas- 221b Baker Street, which should get us into the mood for the Sherlock Holmes special tomorrow. Having devoured a whole load of Scandi fiction recently I have decided to do a Smorgesbord inspired buffet to pick at through the evening, so lots of fish. Eaten far too much meat this xmas.

Had a lovely, if rather overlong day yesterday. YD, SIL and grandchildren arrived mid morning and left at 9pm! Late departure largely due to SIL going to visit his parents and being much longer than he had indicated. Still the children were exceptionally good (especially for them). GS spent most of the playing with a fort he had been given, which mainly seemed to involve one set of soldiers jumping on another while GD and ED constructed a Cinderella castle from Lego, which involved following over 100 pages of instructions! She has left it here so we can play with it when she comes for a  ‘sleepover’ on Saturday. The White chocolate and clementine bombe went down well and no one found  piece of cling film in it, and I was the only one to find shot in the game casserole, fortunately without breaking a tooth.

Wildpurl, have you seen the previous movies. I’m somewhat ashamed to say I haven’t and wondered whether there was any point in going to this one. Like you I’m rather dreading the return to work next week. You’ve already done that of course Lovewine and I imsgine there will be masses for you to do. I shall probably take the decorations down on Sunday after GD goes, but I hate doing it. Sorry to hear your fence has collapsed again. We had very strong winds here too, though fortunately no structural damage. In the Great Storm x years ago half our roof came off with slates flying across the road. This time the only consequence was that everyone along the road had put out their recycling because the lorry comes very early so bins and contents , including broken glass, were everywhere. But we have escaped very lightly here, the pictures of flooded out people in the north are heart-rending. Perhaps the only positive outcome is that it is no longer possible to ignore the effects of climate change.

Rosie, enjoy the last week of your mega family visits. It would have been a lovely end to the year for you to have done with hospital visits but think what progress you have made since this time last year.

Enjoy the last day of 2015 ladies and hear hear to Lovewine’s good wishes for a happy and healthy 2016.
