Scaredschelle take two co-codamol an hour before the cap goes on & drink warm tea as it’s cooling down. Really helped me. Be warned it was quite a lot colder second time round because some hair lost. All the best. TC I lose very little hair until day 20/21 then increased from maybe 25 hairs a day to about 200. It’s been pretty bad week1 after chemo 2, I was getting a bit despondent yesterday (burst into tears on hypnotherapy lady & ended up having hair counselling session instead!). LisaJ’s chemo nurse said shedding will get less, so fingers crossed for us all. I have the sore head thing on the lower half of the back of my head, where I don’t think the cold cap fitted tightly enough. Apologies to ladies who have lost their hair for going on about it. BBx
Good luck chelle and suzey let us know how you get on. The hair and pillow situation I’ve got a silk pillow and it makes a difference . Much more comfortable at night xxxxxx
Good luck today schelle and Suzy! I did cold cap for the second time yesterday it did feel colder at first and I thought I wouldn’t cope but then got used to it. Had a headache last night but not too bad. Take care xxx
Thank you ladies good luck Chelle and Suzy xxxx
Shazza how much of your hair have you kept so far? x
I’ve started losing it in the last week, saying that it’s only minimal at the moment. You can’t notice and I’ve got quite thin hair anyway. I haven’t woken up with any on my pillow it’s just when I brush it. I do have a wig ready and waiting though and I’m really pleased with it. The first one I got I took back as I really wasn’t happy with it, now I feel much better about this one its do natural looking. Is Nikki going to cold cap? Xx
I think she’s going to give it a go. She has quite thick hair so fingers crossed x
I have lost about 30-40% of my hair which I can really notice but was reassured when I went for second chemo on Wednesday. The nurse actually thought it was a wig as she said it looked so thick and perfect. It’s coming out a lot still but she has said it will ease off soon. I hope so as the amount that comes out is pretty frightening. I would defo say to anyone it’s worth a go and I have found it totally bearable. I think I was more curious than anything to try it xx
I agree with Lisajane it’s defiantly worth a try and if you don’t like it you can stop. It’s a lot more bearable than you think and if you don’t try you’ll never know! Good luck xx
Barrie the chemo is totally bearable too. It’s the thought of the unknown that’s worse. Just make sure nikki takes anti sickness regular. Even if she doesn’t feel sick as I think that’s worked great for me. I was reassured by all the other ladies having treatment as they are all sailing through. I have about 5 days when I feel a bit wiped out. Slightly hungover but have still managed to get out and visit people. The appetite is a bit strange. The healthy eating goes out the window but it passes and I start being healthier again whilst I fancy it. All in all it’s very doable not even half as bad as I expected xxx
Good luck today ladies, thinking of you all. Day 5 getting there still taking anti sickness and have a mild headache and leg aches but it is manageable. Barry it is the unknown that is the scary part. We can all do this xxxxx
Glad you survived MadAnge. If you have good 2nd/3rd week & do a bit of normal stuff it helps rebuild your resilience for the next one. Good luck Suzy hope you get a good result xx
Had my first chemo EC 29 September no sickness to report have managed gardening dog walking bridge classes to keep the brain going but the night sweats have kicked in … Never had these before even when going through the menopause any tips. Would like to sleep and not keep having to change my nightwear.
Well what can I say. The U/S was good. The aliens have both shrunk so chemo is working. The down side is that I am back in hospital with neutropeania. Temperature was a little raised 37.6. Onc nurse said straight to A/E for bloods. IV antibiotics immediately even before blood results back. In isolation again. It takes a little away from the great news. Still dancing inside. Ladies, all the struggles that each of us is going through is worth it when you get told that news. Big hugs to you all from bay F. Xxx
Well don val for coping so well. I’m totally whacked the sirdt week and can’t do anything! Can’t help on the hot sweats though. That is a side effect I can look forward to later though!
Suzy what a bummer! Excellent news though! I hope I hear that my mutant Boob is shrinking at the end of the month!
Hope too that you are out and home before you know it xxx
Suzy sooooo sorry to hear that. How annoying for you & unfair for it to happen again to you. Still great news on the U/S. Keep your eye on the prize . . No recurrence. Hope you get out soon.
Val glad you were ok. I have the flushes for 3 days after chemo, but they are all in the evening whilst watching tv, so I just throw off my blanket/any excess clothes & fan myself with a paper fan. Sounds mad, but family now used to mad BC behaviour & don’t bat an eyelid! I heard someone else mentioning a Chillow Pillow, which absorbs heat away from body, & a bed fan which reduces your bed by 5 degrees on www.brookstone.com. I wrote it down just in case! Xx
Oh Suzy I’m so glad your ailians have shrunk as like you I’m having chemo prior to op. Like you too I’m prone to neutrpean My onc specialist nurse said that some people are more susceptible than others xx. I hope your In a proper ward and not shoved in some side ward like me. Love and hugs x
Glad the buggers are shrinking still not feeling fab but temp ok I must be a baby!! Can’t believe you are back in hospital again Suzy. Take care. Him indoors has a bad cold so is in bed leaving me with the toddler from hell. Gonna be a bad day!!! Xxx
MadAnge I have such admiration for you gals with young kids. I don’t know how you do it! I had to have a 2 hour sleep yesterday, like an old granny, so I could manage to go to Pizza Express last night for ours’s 17th birthday. Ordered lots of food (steroids) & then couldn’t face eating much when it came. Hope kids are good & your immune system bats off those cold germs. Both Sarah & my hubbys had colds & we didn’t get it, so u might be ok. X
Been a rough day but has some more good news. Neutrophils are starting to recover on their own. I am in a dedicated neutropaenic room, so ensuite and all that. Staff are lovely and have arranged food that is all pre packaged. They have even got a snack bag from the canteen as I can’t have certain foods. A much nicer experience than last time. Hold on there TC if it hit you that hard it must have an effect on the cancer. Have your onc talked about mid chemo checks?
Madange, you and all the other women who have families and work commitments have my great admiration. How do you manage with the fatigue or the nausea? You must have great reserves of inner strength. I hope you manage to avoid catching any colds or bugs. xx
