Hi all
had my 1st rads today was ok took all of 5 minutes was taken to talk to another nurse before hand today just to go over any worries/ things that may not have been brought up, she told me a small square of my lung will get treatment which at 1st I felt horrified, I knew there was a risk of this but I think its to do with the way the beam is going to be going through my affected breast, has anyone else been told this & could it in turn cause a tumor there in years to come ? should have asked there but didn’t think about it until I was on my way home.

hi mekala, glad your 1st one went ok, i finished on fri. yes i was told about the lung being zapped too but wasnt given any more info about it. apart from if you have an x ray of the chest area in the nxt few years, tell the drs you have had rads as it can show up as shadowing or slight scarring of the lung (it is only a small area of lung too) alex xxx
Thanks hun yeah thats what I was told to mention this on future Xrays the nurse did say its nothing to be alarmed about ? humm must have noticed the concerned look on my face.

Hi Mekala
I have my 1st rad 18/07 and have been told that my lung will be touched but should not cause any probs. I have been given a DVD “Radiotherapy for Breast Cancer” and this mentions that a small area of the lung can be scarred but that this should not cause any problems.
All the best for your treatment, I think you will be finished by the time my starts!

Hi Mekala
Yes I was told about the lung being affected. It is only a very small portion of the lung- ask them to show you the “pictures”.
I was shown the angles of the rays going through my breast/chest and the MRI showed all my organs etc so you can see just how much and where. It should make you feel reassured.
All the best-
Diana
Thank you Diane & Daisy girl thats reasured me I think I might not be reasured if they show me a pic LOL dont mind seeing Xrays etc but not when its mine.
Yes it does make sense where the 2 tattoo marks are is where the beam is shot through so it makes sense as our chest wall is domed so to speak … Daisy I finish on the 11th July my birthday of all days so that will be a good present that its finished with, but as I said its so quick just a shame it takes over an hour there & back & most of my app we opted for early morning by the time my OH gets parked up im in & nearly back out again … Ill be asleep the last week I reckon lol
Hugs

Hi, yes I was told this too. Was told that any scarring might cause a cough but nothing about anything worse than that xx
Hi all
Re Mekalar’s comment - yes I too have been told the same and was also told that there was nothing to worry about.
I start my rads on Tuesday 05 July at Southampton General every day for 3 weeks and at the moment the time is scheduled for 3.54, though I am hoping to change this. Is there anyone else out there also going to SGH so that maybe we could meet for coffee??
Love

I was told there was a very small part of my lung in the field, less than 1cm and the planning had been careful to minimise that. Long term worries mean I have survived the short term so that can’t be all bad. A year out from treatment now and I haven’t noticed any big respiratory changes that aren’t attributable to more solid bra and related accessories!
Thank you hymil & swift … hope you find a buddie to have coffee with its surprising how many you get to know & all so friendly … I felt very tired today I had very early one today which most of mine are so have to leave the house at 7.30 am for the hour 15 min drive there & back wasn’t expecting to feel so tired just yet but skin ok so far so good but early days
