Anyone else with liver secondaries?

Hi Dot

Thanks for posting again and letting me know about the megace. Neither arimidex nor tamoxifen worked well for me but megace evidently works in a different way, so he’s hoping it might. WIll just have to do that “wait and see” thing!!

Really know what you mean about needing a holiday - sometimes it just feels like one treatment after another with no time or energy actually to do the things we want to do. Will keep my fingers crossed for you - only 2 or so weeks to go!

Love Kay xx

Hi Girls (and chaps),
Have missed you - been away a couple of days. It’s amazing how many new threads there are in the space of 4 or 5 days - no hope of catching up with them all!
Well, Dawn and Dot, you sound on target for a good holiday each. I think we need to push the boat out a bit this year too, after last year, but I’m useless at deciding where to go - all the places I really want to go are outside the budget. Typical.
Dawn, poor Jack - what an ordeal for you both. Mouths really bleed don’t they? My daughter smashed her face against a flint wall when she was about six, and bled everywhere. We were in the middle of nowhere at some roman ruins and I’d just had a baby a few weeks before. I had to run nearly a mile to find a phone, leaving my friend (a nurse) to look after her. I was too frightened to stay in case she lost consciousness or died! She got a ride in an ambulance and has a nice Harry Potter scar now.
Allie - hope your scan and results go okay this week. And Manon, hope yours goes OK too.
Kay - hope you feel more settled now you know the plan for the next phase, altho your onc doesn’t sound too convincing! Was it just a poor choice of words do you think? Surely he wouldn’t put you on Megace unless he thought there was a good chance of it being effective?
Hope Catherine’s meal was a great occasion - I bet you can’t believe it - how could someone as young as you possibly be the mother of a 21-year-old!
Right, I’m off to wrap up warm and go and snip at things in the garden for a bit. Got a busy week with Herceptin at 8am tomorrow, 2 days work, and a ‘look good feel better’ workshop to go to. Glad to say my eyelashes are up to about three-quarter length now, so I’ve got something to mascara up.
Have a good week one and all

Hi all,
Just a quick update from me, had CT scan yesterday and had results this morning. Tumour area has shrunk even more so good news there. Tumour markers gone up slightly to 46 from 32 and liver enzymes still playing up, onc seems to think its a zoladex flare and will settle down but keeping an eye on me monthly. I am starting on Femara, a bit anxious about that as tamoxifen didn’t work for me. Had my Zoladex injection without local anaesthetic so nurse thinks I’m so brave!
Getting in a flap about moving my two units can’t decide what should go where and the shop opens up again next weekend so will have a bit of a panic next week! Also house is on the market so have to keep that tidy too, have had a bit of interest this week.
Anyway off to make tea! Hope everyone is doing ok
Allie

Hi Allie

Congrats about the tumour shrinking!!
Its reassuring that Onc will be keeping check monthly, isnt it?

I too have Zoladex without local - at first, the thought is so frightening - ooooooer the pain! But, the local hurts just as much - so its better to get the catapault over and done with (still bl00dy hurts!!!)

Good luck with the shop/units/house - wow you do have a lot going on!!

Take care everybody

Anne xx

Hi all

Really good news Allie - so pleased for you. Know what you mean about being anxious about the femara - I’m the same with the megace as neither tamoxifen nor arimidex worked well for me. Hate the chemo but also then get anxious when we’re not whacking it with chemo! Can’t win really!

Haven’t posted for several days - no particular reason except not got anything much to report! My wound is taking some time to heal which is probably down to the chemo (particularly evidently the Avastin) but they did take a swab in case it is infected. Much less painful now though - can even twist and occasionally bend! - so can’t really think it is infected.

Had a lovely meal with Catherine on Saturday. Can’t believe she’s 21 - she’s my baby!! And aren’t you sweet, Jacquie - but I’m mum also of a 26 year old (and 23 year old). And definitely was not a teenage mum either - far from it!

Hope your week is going ok, Jacquie, and you really enjoy your looking good workshop - I went on one last summer and really enjoyed the afternoon.

What is everyone else up to? Seems to have been quite quiet recently on our mega-thread! Hope you are all ok and enjoying the sunshine.

Take care all

Lots of love

Hi All,
Well done Allie - great news.
I feel a bit left out of things as I never seem to get a chance to go on the live chat - sounds like it was good last night…but it’s a brilliant idea about tea at the Ritz, isn’t it? Can’t wait.
I still think we should meet as Liver Birds as well though.
Went on Look Good Feel Better - it was brilliant. Tons of gorgeous skincare and make-up stuff. Can’t believe how different my wrinkly neck skin looks after just two applications of decent moisturiser! And it was a good giggle following the ‘colour by numbers’ demonstration.
Got to go to bed, I’m whacked.
Love to all

Hi jacquie and all,

Allie - fantastic, glad things are going ok …I think i will be going down that route soon, apprehensive but am now getting to the point that I would like a break from this chemo lark, had a bit of a sense of humour failure on monday about the whole thing, but picked myself up again.

Saw you are all interested in tea at the ritz, sound like a great idea and looking forward to it, but totally agree liver birds should meet, why dont we leave it as Kay to come back when you could face trip up and train and then we will start thinking?

I went on a LGFB first time round, thought it was great, also had a free makeup consult this time, which was actually really helpful, its a bit of a laugh and it is suprising what a decent bit of makeup does for your morale, did they hit you with the green toner? Wasn’t so sure about that one but otherwise its such a great idea

I have been really busy with work and the realtives are going to descend next week so hoping I have nerve and strength to deal with them. Hope everyone is keeping ok, traceys how are you getting on?

love to all

Cathy

Hi all

Just quick post to say I’m hoping to go to the Tea at the Ritz “do” as well but would really love another separate meet of us Liver Birds as well. I made it up to London for the forum on secondary cancer and employment, so have declared myself “fit to travel” so long as I take my time etc etc. And also could do with a bit of a boost if I’m honest - not used to being stuck in the house and getting more than a little fed up as can’t drive for another 3 weeks. So how about setting a date for some time soon, before our Dawn disappears off on her hols!

Lots of love Kay xx

i am up for tea a the ritz also , cant wait . just had a scan today , should get results tomorrow if i am lucky ,didnt cry this time tho , must be getting brave . am off to london on the 12th of march with hubby to the marsden for a chat about the rfa that i couldnt have etc , he will have todays scan , so i am hoping for a litle reduction in lesions if i am lucky since i have had 2 more taxoteres .
any idea when the meet will be ??
love to all Tracy xx

Hi All

Yeah I know, been a bit elusive again, I just do not know where the time goes anymore - need to earmark some more time for myself I reckon. Today had John on laptop and Sophie on main computer, I mean, come on!!! Jack will be on it next. LOL

Allie great news for you - lets hope it continues. How is life having hubby home full time?
Jacquie, glad you had a great time on your LGFB day, I did try to get to one at Maidstone, but left numerous messages and they never called back!!!
Cathy you work far too hard, and should ease up. Was you really at work til gone 8 last night I think it was. Admire your stamina have to say.

Kay hope you are doing OK and glad you enjoyed your day out Monday. Bet you were whacked though, takes it out of you doesn’t it. But glad to hear things improving with the wound and you are slowly but surely getting back to “norm”.

Put my name down for the tea/champers at the Ritz - more champers for me than tea, I have to say!!! Ha Ha. Yep I know, alcoholic!!! I would also love to try to meet up again before my hols on 30 March - only 5 weeks I think now … and got Herceptin Tuesday next week then again on Tuesday 18 March. I will need notice, as cos got 2 busy weekends on 8th and 15th March and John having both Sat and Sunday off each time, he will need to take day off work to look after muppets alongside his usual (if that makes sense). And to be awkward, Mondays and Wednesdays not that good for me. But see what is good for everyone else.

Tracy hope you can make it though if you get enough notice - would be good to meet you. Hope your results are good tomorrow and glad you didn’t cry. They are tough these scans, i hate them and then the waiting is crucifying. Is it a second opinion at the marsden then?

Hope everyone else that I have not mentioned is doing OK and looking forward to their weekend.

Take care
Love

Hi All,
Sounds a good idea that the Liver Birds meet up.Don’t know if it helps Dawn but what about Friday the 14th March? Got the dentist again at 12noon in London. Going for a hair cut today… My hair is still short but everyone tells me I should start going commando (without bandana!). The last time I went to hairdressers was Sept 14th and in the meantime my hairdressers had closed! Had to go around time with my nose against windows finding them. Anyway was driving to pick up Jayne my right-hand girl at work and noticed one of the guys working in a new saloon so dived in to make appt. Looking forward to being pampered again.
Anyway,take care all,
Allie

Hi All

Allie, having your hair cut - wow - that must be so exciting, dunno when I will get that far.

As for Friday 14 March, don’t think I can do that, as up town on 15th with my friends for theatre and overnight stay and don’t wanna knacker myself out, and as John having weekend off to look after muppets, he won’t be able to have the Friday too. But if that is the only day you can all do, then go ahead without me and we can do something when I am home.

Hope everyone is good today, the weekend is looming …

Love
Dawn

Wow! A hair cut, Allie! How long is your hair now? Was wondering whether it was time to have something done with mine so it looks a bit more of a style! But don’t know whether it’s long enough yet.

14th is good for me but I can make virtually any day - it would be nice if you could join us Dawn if at all possible.

Off for a pub lunch with a friend - and then another wound check. Aaaagh - it’s still oozing!!

Lots of love

Kay xx

Hi all

Just been trying to read through some of this thread…didnt manage all the 433 posts though, so forgive me if I’ve missed something.

DOT - we used to chat on Tuesday evenings many months ago…it’s great to see you posting. So sorry to hear that your husband passed away. Did you get to go on holiday yet?

I have now been dx with numerous liver lesions to go with the extensive bone mets I’ve had since dx in Dec06

Waiting until various tests have been done to decide which chemo would be the best option, so if you dont mind I would like to join your “gang”. Have seen a few of you on the other site too. Kay was it Pinkdove you met whilst in London. I sometimes meet with her too in a local group.

Take of yourselves
Cathie

Hi Cathie

welcome to the thread, sorry you had to join us on this thread but its a great place to swap information with some very nice people on it…you have been on the site for a while - I was diagnosed with secondaries in Nov 07 straight to liver and bones…any ideas what chemo you might have ? I would say taxotere is bearable compared to FEC,but bone aches and pains no joke for first three days or so afterwards.

Haven’t posted for a little bit, partly because I have been knocked by fifth taxotere last friday which left me pretty frayed, and then partly because i have been so darned busy with half term, work and feeling lousy led to alot of scrapping with OH. (kay BTW thanks for your mail )

Feel much better today and its always a difficult balance between feeling better and then not doing too much because of it, Hope you are all enjoying the weekend and out with friends etc. We are rpeparing for my sister to come and visit next week, I think it could be fun…hopeful really.

friday 14 th march is good for me, I am easonably flexible at the moment, so up for any suggestions in first three weeks of March or last two weeks in April…allie how did hair cut work out - sounds lovely doesnt it? I would love a good pampering at the moment.

love
cathy

Hi Cathy

Not sure yet which chemo I will be having. Have already had Taxotere with Avastin but had anaphylactic reaction to the chemo so banned fron trying any Taxanes again! Most likely to be Epirubicin (if trial people agree) or Capacitabine or Gemcitabine. Not really looking forward to losing hair again so quickly if I end up with Epi but I suppose it will be worth it in the end.
How many Tax are you planning to have?

Will try to make live chat on Tues to “meet” a few of you.

Cathie

Hi All and welcome to Cathie.
I definitely want to meet up with just us lot again, but can’t do the 14th either! I’m already booked on a full day conference.
Allie, a haircut sounds a treat. Kay, sorry you’re still oozing, Dawn, you never did tell us what yur new wig looks like. Cathy, sorry to hear you’ve been feeling lousy from your treatment.
Not much time - got to help daughter decorate a hard-boiled egg! She has to carry it around for a week like a pet, to raise money for Barnardo’s!! What will they think of next to waste our time, money and patience! It’s also past her bedtime and she should have had it finished to take in to school today. I’m such a failure as a mother!
There’s never enough time…
Love to you all
Jacquie xx

Hi everyone

How are you all and what is going on with everyone. I hope that everyone is well and having a good week so far, and enjoying this beautiful sunshine that we are having.

Well had my herceptin yesterday (No. 4) and went very well, got there at 8.45, straight in at 9, drip and saline going through by 9.20 and herceptin started bt 9.50 so was home by 12.15. First time run that smoothly for me, although new regime of doing blood pressure and temp before leave, and my temp on the ear thingy was 37.7, did both ears and had to go seek another nurse. Then did manual temp and was OK. Started to worry weren’t gonna let me out.

Anyway, hope you are all OK. Need to sort out meeting up but as said I can’t do 14 March and the other dates that definitely can’t do are 11 March (heart scan), 13 march (kids dentist) and 18 March (Herceptin) and then off on hols on 30 March. But as I said, you lot sort out a date to suit majority and if I can come along then I will, be also depends if can get John to stay home and look after muppets, as he has got couple of weekends off, so might not be too easy.

Well Jack is just up, trashing the house, trying to break sky box now and we are off to get Sophie soon and then onto stay n play. I am having an ebay frenzy too right now, selling off all my old baby stuff, and doing OK, although having to go back and forth to the post office, bit of pain.

Take care all

Hi Cathie

Yep, it was me in London so met Kay and a couple of other ladies (there were 5 of us in total at the focus group).

Let me know how you get on …

Had text from Shirley today and she’s improving each day gradually.

Seeing the gynae man on Friday and had my MRI scan yesterday (was due for Friday but they had a cancellation). Was in The Bull having a coffee with T when a call came through asking if I could go up that day!

Take care and see you in a couple of weeks.

Hi all

Hope we can get a date sorted for a liver birds meet sometime before you disappear on your hols Dawn, particularly as I see you can’t make the Cinderella Day. I can make most days given some notice - am planning to go back to work mid March but am sure I can sneak off for a while! It will be good to see everyone again - a lot seems to have happened in the last month and a bit - and to meet some new faces as well hopefully. Can’t remember why the 14th was first suggested - was it because you are in London then Tracy (or was it you Allie)?

A belated welcome, Cathie - sorry you’ve had to join us but you are more than welcome to join our “gang”. When will you know what chemo etc?

Glad you had your MRI early, Carol - when do you get the results?

I’m getting pretty fed up stuck at home. Can’t do any of my normal “coping” things - digging the garden, going for a long walk etc - and probably just have too much time to sit and think. Can’t seem to concentrate on much either. Am quite irritable with everyone by the time they arrive back home at the end of the day, which doesn’t go down very well. Wound is still healing - just won’t quite knit together at the top under the ribs - but is much better than it was. And the hospital haven’t rung about the swab they took so assume it isn’t infected.

Rereading your post Dawn has given me an idea - perhaps I should have a good clear out and get rid of some things on ebay… Would give me something constructive to do - and earn some cash for my hols! We certainly have enough surplus junk…

Hope your daughter’s egg is still in one piece, Jacquie!

Lots of love

Kay x
