Anyone get good result from radiotherapy for pain?

Hi all,

Happy Mother’s Day to those spending special time with their families today.

I am having rads planning this week with the intention of having rads to my neck and pelvic mets.

I am coping resaonably with the pelvic mets using tramadol.

However, the mets in my neck, at C7 vertebrae, are pushing on the nerve and I am in a lot of pain from my neck down to my fingers on the left side. The tramadol isn’t really helping. I am getting a little reduction in pain from naproxen, an anti-inflammatory. Also, doing IV bisphosponate every 3 weeks.

Has anyone else had this kind of pain? Did the radiotherapy help?

I will be starting taxol on Thurs and was wondering if the chemo helps.

All feedback and suggestions for treatment will be very welcome.

Yes I have had it twice for different areas and had great results x

I have found radiotherapy to be very effective in getting rid of pain.

At the time I was diagnosed with secondary bone mets (Oct 2012), I was having extreme pain in my neck and had a very painful right hip which was making walking difficult. Radiotherapy treatment took away these pains more or less straight away.

A couple of months later my left hip started to give me pains which were very similar to the previous pain in the right hip. I had one blast of radiotherapy on that side too. Initially it did not seem to have an effect and a few weeks went by. Then overnight the pain had gone!

I am happy to say that none of these pains has returned as yet and I do not have to take any painkillers at present.

So this treatment can be very effective at least for some peope but the impact may not be immediate.

Hope this helps
