I went to my GP last week to get the next 3 months supply of Tamoxifen, and at the time mentioned that I have been suffering from night cramps recently. I probably get them about once or twice a week. I started Tamoxifen in January but this has only just started recently.
She recommended drinking a glass of tonic water every day, and so far it has done the trick! Still needs longer time to test it thoroughly but I’ll keep going. Apparently it is the quinine in it that prevents cramp. I checked the labels and bitter lemon also has quinine in.
Only thing is I can’t stand tonic water, and don’t even mention gin!!!
Wonder what adding vodka would do to the taste?
Hi Valentine, Give it a go. There are lots of theings you could mix with it. It is very interesting to here that it works for you. Good to get good tips here. How are you getting on with your treatment? Love Val X
Hi,
From what I’ve read here I seem to be having an easy time with the side effects. Worse thing is the night sweats. Haven’t slept through the night for a year now, at worst am waking 5 or 6 times a night and at best 2 or 3 times. Have tried giving up alcohol but that doesn’t help. Yippeee!! I can carry on with the wine and a clear conscience.
Latest thing is to try and not eat too late at night. It does seem to help. I had one night this week when I only woke once. Amazing!
Get stiff ankles in the morning and hobble out of bed, am trying cod liver oil for this. Still too early to see if it makes a difference.
The good thing is I haven’t put any weight on and have no other side effects. I can carry on with my normal activities, work, tap dance, cycling and swimming and have just taken up jogging.
Hope you are doing well
Val
Hi Valentine,
I have been on Tamoxifen for 6 weeks now… I get terrible hot flushes and night sweats, I’ve been taking cod liver oil for achey joints too. It has been suggested by other forum members to try a different brand of Tamoxifen and was just wondering if you had done this yet? I’m thinking about it if the side effects don’t lessen. I have been taking tonic water ( I hate also!!) for bad veins with chemo so not had cramps…
Hugs

I’m on Tamoxifen (1 year)and get cramps in my lower leg during the night. They wake me and are very painful. I have noticed they are less frequent since I have switched to taking the tablet last thing at night.
