I will have my last normal rt treatment 2morrow,then due 2 start booster treatment. can anyone tell me what difference is/what to expect. Feeling nervous, as another stage, but near the end! I know they will attach a gadget 2 the machine.

on the rads???
i had 15 then 5 booster. the machine has like an attachment on and it comes directly to your tumour bed, the scar area, and then does the same as your normal ones.
this apparently directs lazer to under the skin where as the other ones skim the breat area. so its just more direct. doesnt hurt, but the burning is more intense and quite quick.
keep using the aqueous cream and aslo aloe vera gel helps as mine was quite sore.

Yes forgot 2 say on the rads & I will have 5 boosters too. I assume the gadget does not touch the skin. Iam very fair skinned & my skin is now suffering. Slapping on cream & got aloe vera gel last week. It is a godsend @ the moment. I am counting down the days now. Tho I think this last bit may drag as I want it to all finish! Doc has now signed me off work. so I can rest up.

Whiterabbit if your skin is starting to break down, ask for some mepilex dressings. They are very low tack dressing that just prevent the skin rubbing - particularly good for under the breast and the armpit - but do it before the soreness gets too bad, as if it’s sore now, boosters will likely make it worse.

I had 5 boosters following 25 rads, and my skin was very sore and broken before I started the boosters.The rad nurse checked my skin every day of the booster week and she applied a gel called NU-GEL,which she applied and then covered with a mepilex dressing.BLISS!They gave me supplies of both on my last day of treatment and I also got extra supplies from my gp.It did take about 3 weeks for the soreness to subside,so hope you can get some help with this and good luck with the rest of treatment.

I will ask more @hosp 2 morrow. I just want 2 scratch my skin, but I know I mustn’t, it is v sore & itchy! 2day is 1day I dont go 2 hosp, so my skin is getting a rest. I couldn’t bear hardly anything on my skin last night!

thanks for asking the question whiterabbit, and thanks 4 answers ladies! im due 2 start 5 boosters on fri after 15 rads. very sore and purply/brown spotty under boob. driving me crazy! my poor nipple feels like its been stretched across the room! will ask re ur suggestions as all my teams keep saying is slap on the aqueous. love alex xxx
aaahhg! just read ur post properly poppy, my scar/tumour area is directly under my boob-exactly the area that is sooo sorewill it get worse with the boosters being exactly on that area?? alex xxx

I start my booster thursday. Ouch too. My scar is right round nipple area,sort of horse shoe shape, in fact outer edge! I’ll let u know how 1st b goes & good luck with remainder of treatment. We r almost there!

hi alis, luck 2 u 2!! my scar is right under crease of boob(like implant scar) so surgeon did a fab job.that bit doesnt usually see the sunlight so prob why its so blummin sore. the end is nigh! yay! eill be thinking of u. alex xxxx
Howdy all, I had 5 boosters after 15 rads, boosters didn’t make my skin react any differently from the normal rads. Maybe I was just ‘lucky!’ My reactions happened about a week after rads had finished (peeling nipple - ouch).
Good luck to all of you going through rads n boosters, hope any SE are little ones x
alex, its different for everyone i think , , aperently it can continue to burn up to 2 weeks after rads finish as well, so just keep eye on it, the peeps at the hospital will be looking for the breakdowns too.
