Hi all, I have just spent a week in hospital with a SE Cerebellar Syndrome fron capcitabine, I have stopped the chemo and most of the symptoms have stopped, but I still have twitches in my arms and hands and practically no grip, looking for other cases to judge how long these may last.
Sorry to hear of your recent problem and stay in hospital Debbie. Sorry I cannot help as it is not something I have had myself and I do not know of anyone who has. I did have Palner Planter Syndrome with this chemo and have lost sensation in my fingertips which slightly improves when I am off the dreaded tablets. I hope someone comes along soon who may be able to tell you. Can the hospital not give you any more info? Val
Thanks for your reply Val, it was extremely frightening and I can’t find much info on it, it seems to be a very rare side effect. I’m off the capcitabine now, got an appt Friday to find which chemo to switch to, lets hope I get to see the consultant, everyone else is clueless. I’m smashing plates left right and centre, losing grip and hand jerks are annoying.
I keep dropping things too Debbie and have been banned from drying wine glassed as they just fall through my fingers. I have broken so many of them and it makes such a mess and you have to make sure you have picked up all the splinters in case the cats get them in their delicate paws. I think my problem is called peripheral neuropathy. I can carry a piece of paper across the room and when I get there it is gone. I do not even know I have dropped it. Now I am not allowed to bend down in case I dislocate my hip so I try to carry as little as possible. But I don’t have the shaking that you do. It must have been very scary for you. Hope it passes and that the new chemo is kinder to you. Hugs, V
