Anyone having chemo and rads at the same time?

Hi all,
Recently diagnosed with a new local recurrence of bc after initial dx 6 years ago. Having the tumour shrunk medically prior to surgery as it is attached to the chest wall. My onc has said I will have both chemo and rads together prior to surgery - has anyone else had this? I can’t get my head around how it’s going to work … remembering there were days during chemo last time when I could barely drag myself out of bed … the thought of feeling like that and having to do the two-hour round trip for daily radiotherapy seems really hard.
Would love to hear from someone who has been there and done that!
Thanks x

Thanks Jill,
Hope your appointment with onc went ok today. Isn’t this disease a persistent b****r? Hope they can give you the best treatment with minimal side effects xxxx
PS Found out today I’m having 4 weeks of rads with chemo as an inpatient during first and last weeks. Don’t know how much chemo after that and whether or not that will also be as an inpatient. Onc has been on his holidays, back today but hasn’t quite made it into the hospital yet…
Katherine

Wishing you both good luck and sending very big hugs too. What a b*****d cancer is!!

It does sound really daunting but looks like they’re going to blast the wee ******!

I received my Breast CA dx in Nov 2001. I had chemo (CMF), oral Cytoxan, MF was IV push. I had 6 months of chemo from Jan 2002 through June 2002. In May & June 2002 I had radiation M-F. I worked full-time not missing one day of work. I was a Stage 2 and had a lumpectomy (came back clear margins pirior to my treatment). The only problem I had was being unbelievable exhausted, and having 3rd degree burn at my sentinel node bx site.

I did whatever my oncologist told me to do. Had 5 years of Tamoxifen followed by 2 years of Femara.

I am very, very blessed. I go to my radiologist every 6 months for a breast U/S, once a year a mammogram. I am very diligent about all my doctor’s appointments, and love all my network of physician’s.

I wish you all the best forthcoming. God Bless You.
