Anyone having treatment at Guildford

Hi

Wondered if there is anyone else having rads at St Lukes Guildford feb / march?

Hi
Had radiotherapy at St Lukes a while back, so know it well! Really hope you are getting on okay, I found it a really friendly setup.
All the best

Hi I am starting rads at guildford very soon have been told I will need 5 weeks of it. I am seeing my onc this thursday at Cranleigh Hospital and I think he will tell me when the rads will start. When I get my dates I will post. love Linda x

Hope it goes ok with the onc today. Already started my rads at St |Lukes 6 of 15 today. They make it as easy as poss and I do feel like a ‘person’ rather than just a number. Let me know when you are going to start, maybe we could have a coffee?

Hi Helen i’m so pleased your rads are going well that is very reasuring. I saw my onc today and have to wait now for a letter from the department where you have the rads my onc sent a letter to them 2 weeks ago so could get a letter soon did this happen to you? so much waiting about. How are you feeling has it made you sore or tired you hear so many stories its a bit scary.

I will be in touch it would be nice to meet up.Love Linda x

I’ve been really lucky and had everything done / arranged privately as my husband gets private health cover for the family thru work but did wait from end of dec when I first saw onc until 28/2 to start rads! But snow in Jan messed planning appt up and delayed things by a couple of weeks and then we had booked to go away half term so everything got put back. The waiting is by far the worst bit!
I’ve had 6 of 15 and so far so good. Feeling a bit tired and getting a bit sore but at the moment it’s do-able. Still working part time cos that gives me some normality but not sure I’ll still be working at the end of the rads - will see how I feel.

Keep in touch - hopefully your appointment will come thru soon.

Hi All,

I finished 15 rads at Guildford last Wednesday 24th and it all went smoothly and everyone was friendly. I was on LA6, but I stayed in the main area until they called me and I got quite addicted to the jigsaw each day. It definitely helped to pass the time when the appointments ran a bit late sometimes.

I saw the onc on 22nd December, had my planning appointment on the 14th Jan and started rads on the 2nd Feb.

You should both go and visit the Fountain Centre and book at least one of their treatments. It is a good place to go and chill with a cup of coffee and they have lots of books and information leaflets and people to talk to.

My skin got very sore towards the end and worsened afterwards for a few days, but is definitely improving now. I am very tired and have another couple of weeks on my sick note, but I’m under pressure to go back to work as its a small company and a very busy time of year. I feel kind of numb and wrung out so maybe going bak to work would help make me feel normal again. I’m not sure what to do for the best at the moment.

Anyway, you are in good hands at Guildford and the time will pass quickly.

Hi Ladies,
I am starting rads at Guildford on the 16th in LA1 (I think). Had planning this week and had 2 lovely radiographers look after me. Had 3 chemo at Guildford and before that 3 at Redhill. St Lukes was a bit of a shock after Redhill. Its so busy there. Had wonderful nurses in the chemo dept but glad that part is all over. I still haven’t visited the Fountain Centre. Must do that soon.
Isn’t the car park a nightmare???
Love to you all,
Jane xx

Jane

I agree with you about the car park, finding a space can be the longest bit of the whole time there! I have heard some people say they park in the Tesco and cut through. Also going to try the Fountain Centre this week. Good luck with your rads, I am currently on 7 of 15 on LA5 and everyone has been lovely.

Take care

Helen

Hi,

Prior to my mastectomy I regularly went to yoga at the Fountain Centre. Hope to return as soon as I am able. The people at the Fountain Centre are fantastic, incredibly undertstanding and helpful. It is a total haven. I often go there and sit if I have appts at the nuclear medicine department. The garden there is lovely to walk around or sit in when the weather is warmer. The parking behind st lukes is supposed to be for people visiting st lukes only, but we find its nearly always full. have been lucky the last few times as people have pulled out just as we’ve pulled in.

I am having private chemo treatment at Mount Alvernia Hospital in Guildford thanks to my husbands health insurance. But I recently went to the ‘look good feel better’ session in the Fountain Center at St Lukes. It was really worth going, you need to book in adavnce but you get a fantastic goodie bag of products, and I have felt a lot better going into work since I now know how to draw in my eyebrows and lashes it gave me a big confidence boost.

Hi I went into the fountain centre just inside where the cafe is there were loads of people sitting having coffee but that is as far as I got didnt know where to go!silly me but felt a little nervous I dont know why a bit like when you start a new job and go for your tea break. I hope to get a letter soon for my plan of the 5 weeks rads I feel a bit in limbo as its been some time now but still off work waiting for rads I wonder am I skiving.love and luck to you all.

Oh Linda,

At least you got to the cafe! Took me months to build up the confidence/courage to go to the Fountain Centre, but it was definitely worth it when I did. I too have gone to a Look Good Feel Better session. Such a confidence booster and loads of goodies too!

When I am recovered from my recent op I would be more than happy to accompany a ‘newbie’ to the Fountain Centre. Just pm me.
