Anyone heard of Mr M Senior Glasgow Royal

Hi everyone

Had surgery mastectomy and immediate recon fixed for 14th Jan, just got phone call from hospital to change date to 9th but also to change plastic surgeon. Has anyone hear of a Mr Mike Senior plastic surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

I feel a bit nervous to say the least as my meetings to date have been with a different plastic surgeon with whom i felt comfortable and had seen some of her work.

Any help greatly appreciated

I haven’t heard of this surgeon but is there any chance of a consultation with them before the op? just a thought.

My husband is a doctor and we have just checked in the Medical Directory (2005 edition) and GMC and cannot find him listed at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. There is a Dr Michael Arthur Senior who qualified at Leeds in 1995. His specialist register entry as a plastic surgeon was 27 December 2007. So he is a new boy. Personally I would prefer someone with a bit more experience. Good Luck and Happy 2008.

Thanks for the responses, googled him and couldn’t find him at all so i did wonder. Now i have a dilemma. My last chemo was on the 22nd of November as my 6th FEC did not take place, bloods to low so stopping at five. The gap between my last chemo and planned surgery became 7 1/2 weeks instead of 4 but was assured that was ok. Have been advised that as my planned consultant can’t do the surgery on the 14th, she is now on call, my only option is to go with this new guy or my consultant can’t do it for some time.

Doesn’t seem fair when nothing works out as planned. When Mr Senior’s secretary phoned she was calling to arrange my prophylactic mastectomy, unfortunately she had missed the small matter of cancer.

Anyway rant over, have managed to arrange to see this guy tomorrow but what a dilemma, what do i do if i think he is not experienced enough.

Any views ple----ase.

You could always ask to see some examples of his work during your consultation and possibly speak to your BCN or clinic nurse.

I was different to you, I had 2 year wait from mastectomy, was never in position for immed op, due to wait I moaned a bit and was offered to be referred, but the clinic nurse immediatley advised me to stick with consultant as did BCN and his secretary as they were all impressed with his work, you should definitley have some choice and others should be available to offer advice. Do you have a local support group, has he operated on any of the woman who attend, this is another good method to check their work.

Hope all goes well tomorrow, I suppose the way they look at it, they all start of new and have to build reputation, but you are running on a tight schedule, can you chat with original PS to get her views.

Don,t worry had mastectomy breast reconstruction using diep method which you will know is using skin and fat from the abdomen, had surgery in Glasgow Royal Canniesburn unit on 13Dec. I am home now and just beginning to feel human again, but i met a lot of really nice women in same situation as ourselves all you do is talk, laugh and share experiences.Ward 48 is the best, you are looked after very well.Regarding Mr Senior i heard him mentioned a few times and all very good, all the surgeons come to do their ward rounds and as far as i could see they were all brilliant. I,m sure ward 48 will put you at ease as well as the breast cancer nurses Diane and Claire who will support you all the way.I will be thinking about you, hope you found my reply helpfull Good Luck.
