Anyone in Edinburgh or the Lothians?

Hi, I’m being treated at the Western in Edinburgh. I was diagnosed with breast cancer a short time ago Is there any one else who is also going through the same process and willing to share advice, chat or meetup? I’m feeling very isolated. Despite the great support on this forum it all seems very anonymous.

Hi, I live on the West coast (Bridge of Weir) but my husband works in Edinburgh and we will soon be in a flat there (bank permitting!). I had surgery last year, six months chemo and now I’m into my third week of radiotherapy. I have been really well throughout and would like to give you support through your treatment. If you would like to chat or meet up (in Edinburgh) then just let me know. Sue

Hi Sue, Yes!!! So great to hear that you have been well through all treatment. I’ll send you a private message if that’s OK.

Hi arlo- Im getting my treatment at the western too. Ive just finished radiotherapy and now on herceptin/tamoxifen/zoladex. I often feel a bit lonely and would be happy to chat or meet up, Yvonne

Hi Yvonne, you look scarily young to have breast cancer. Have you not had to do chemo? I’d be interested in comparing notes since, even though the Western is supposed to be so good, I have mixed feelings about it.

Hi Arlo & Yvonne,

Sorry for delay, I will check my personal messages - not that I know how to!

It would be nice if we could meet up as we are all at different stages and could use each others experiences! I am on Tamoxifen and will also be having Herceptin, so Yvonne maybe you could give me some tips! I have read some forums re Tamoxifen but to be honest I do find that sometimes its just bad experiences that people want to talk about - I’ve been taking it for 3 weeks now and can’t say I’ve noticed anything different. Same with Radiotherapy, I’m sailing through it - so Arlo please don’t worry about your treatment.

Best wishes. Sue

Hi Arlo and Sue

I would be happy to meet up and have a chat about our experiencies. Sue it sounds like Im just a couple of weeks ahead of you as just finished rads not so long ago and first herceptin down. Ive been on tamoxifen for maybe about 6 weeks and I do have some mood swings and hot flushes but so far bearable (my partner might not agree though). Arlo Ive pmed you back, so hopefully sort something out between us all

Yvonne

im getting treated at the western too… for the second time… would love to chat…

i had WLE, rads and tamox first time (3 yrs ago) but this one is a new primary and triple negative so already had WLE and starting chemo on thursday for 6 months with rads after and back to tamoxifen for 1st tumour.

been on tamoxifen for 3 years and not any real probs except for heavy bleeding on one brand… sandoz i think… green pack.

now only get cp pharma (now called workhardt) and have the odd flush but nothing major just some ‘drying out effects’ dry mouth, dry scalp, itchy skin, constipation but all easily rectified…

going to have to stop it for the 6 months im on chemo.

rads were 3 years ago too and cant remember any major problems just a bit of a fried boob… but the simulator day was hellish.

would love to meet up with other local girls.

Wow, thanks to all of you for your words of reassurance. Sue, I’d love to meet up but only if coming through is not too much trouble. Yvonne has mentioned Thursday AM as being OK for her however I don’t know if that would work for you. Maybe lunch? Yvonne we could meet somewhere near you? I’m happy if you bring your son along but that’s your call.

Lulu, am so sorry to hear that you are going through all this again. I’ll pm you my email address so if you want we can copy each other in on plans to meet up.

Hi girls

I’m from Dumfries and Galloway, but am due to start my radiotherapy at the Western on 20th July (and will be staying up there Monday-Friday for the four weeks) so would be more than happy to meet up, or you guys can show me the ropes!

I’m 38, with a 10 month old baby, and was diagnosed 28th May. Have had WLE and sample lymph node removal.

She xx

she its such a shame for people from dumfries… as im sure there are cancer centres closer or easier to get to than edinburgh its just the way the country is divided up.

i was just saying to my partner how people in dumfries need to come every day for rads.

i start my chemo on thurs but not til 2.30 so earlier on thur would be ok but would be better on wednesday for me… but let me know where and when and ill see what i can organise.

sue im the opposite way round to your OH i live in edinburgh and work in glasgow, clyde and renfrew… although im off at the mo.

Hi girls! Hopefully we will all be able to meet up this week.

Arlo, I think we have voted you as chief organiser - so thanks for all your work in coordinating a get together!

Yvonne, yep you are a couple of weeks ahead of me as I don’t start my Herceptin until August. I dont seem to have mood swings on Tamoxifen but then I haven’t been on it that long - and as you say - we probably don’t notice it as much as others. Ha!

Lulu, I’m sorry to read about you having to go through BC again. Just a bit of reassurance re chemo. I also had 4Epi & 4CMF - and bar a couple of hiccups I sailed through it - have a couple of tips that I could pass on when we meet. That’s a lot of travelling you have with your job, actually my husband was working in London until he started a new job in Edinburgh in April - so West to East is going to be so much easier than North to South!!

She, hopefully a bit of reassurance for you too, I am on my last week of radiotherapy, and as with chemo have sailed through it. Have applied the aqueous cream morning and night and my skin is just fine.

Yvonne & She - I take my hat off to you coping with treatment and having a young child to look after.

Well hopefully meet you all soon. Sue xx

Hi my current thinking is that we should try for Wednesday afternoon. Lulu, I think you can make it then? Sue hopefully you’ll be finished? And Yvonne I hope that’s OK for you and your son. She, Sorry I have not had a chance to coordinate with you too but assume it you will not be in Edinburgh till July anyway.

If you can all confirm then we can fix a time and place. Suggestions for a place welcome. I had thought somewhere fairly central that Sue and Lulu could reach fairly easily.

hi Barbara wed afternoon is fine for me.

sue its good to know you had no problems with the e-cmf… hopefully ill be the same

Hello

Im afraid I cant make tomorrow afternoon, I now have a friend coming through for a couple of days to stay with me, long story, but apologies for not being able to make it. Hope the meet goes well and will hopefully be able to meet up another time. It will probably be better me not coming with Max anyhow as he has been driving me round the bend last 24 hours

Hello
I’ve only just seen this thread - I’m also being treated at the Western and have my 2nd FEC there today at 2.30. If you do find a time to meet up, would you mind if I came along? I’ve not really properly met anyone else that’s going through all this crap so would be great to meet you all.
I live in Stockbridge so have an easy 15 min walk to the WG.
Look forward to meeting you :o)
Bev

Hi Ladies,

Just confirming that I can make Wednesday afternoon. So sorry you are not available Yvonne - but I’m sure we can sort out another get together which will suit. Enjoy your time with your friend and hopefully she will entertain Max for a while so you can have a break.

Bev, welcome to the wee group and hope you can make it Wednesday.

So take it we are meeting at 2.00pm tomorrow at The Elephant House, George IV bridge. I’m sure you will recognise me from the awful photo, and the hairstyle is a bit of a give away - ha!

Sue xx

Yep, see you all at the Elephant House at 2:00 tomorrow (wednesday)
Yvonne, sorry you can’t make it but we’ll see you next time hopefully?

And Bev, I hope you can make it!

Hi ladies
I’ll see how I feel tomorrow if that’s ok, just had my 2nd FEC today and not sure how I’ll be feeling come the morning.
Arlo - thanks for your PM, would definitely like to meet up with you guys sometime soon if I can’t make tomorrow.
Take care
Bev
