I am due to attend the LGFB workshop at Addenbrokes in November. Not sure if you have heard of Casting for Recovery? They run retreats, dates for 2010 are yet to be finalised, but take a look at their website - looks interesting.

wasnt aware Rugby st cross had a breast clinic we all usually go to Coventry
You are right - my GP said St Cross but in fact Coventry rang yesterday and I am going there on Saturday morning - which I thought was quite unusual!
Any tips about parking etc - I’ve never been there.

Hi Remi chick,
I live in northampton and im 30yrs old with 2 children.
I was diagnosed in Dec and had to have a mastectomy, followed by chemo, rads and still having Herceptin and Tamoxifen. If you want to chat post me a line.
Take care

Hi Jane
I’m being treated at Coventry and parking isn’t a problem…just take cash as the machines don’t take cards (and it isn’t the cheapest hospital to park at!!). Oh, and make sure you avoid the private hospital car park as it would cost you £50 to get out of if you parked there by mistake - it is well signposted as you try and get in but that doesn’t make much difference when you have things on your mind!
I’ve had a lumpectomy and node removal and get my results tomorrow. My surgeon is Steve Parker and he’s great. They have been really supportive (especially given as I’m 20 weeks pregnant!) and every member of staff I have met has been wonderful. If you’re going to the breast clinic I’d take a magazine or a book as they usually run late (sometimes up to an hour). The first time I went I was really annoyed that they kept me waiting but the day I got my results and found out I had cancer I understood how delays happen. I don’t have a single bad thing to say!
I hope your visit goes well
Faye
Hi Faye,
I was examined by Steve Parker too - he seemed nice. He said I should have a duct excision to stop the discharge and to check for anything ‘nasty’.
I then had a mammogram that showed nothing wrong and then an ultrasound. The radiologist saw an enlarged duct and ‘debris’ (?) so before I knew it I had had 2 core biopsies. She did say that ones in the nipple make their toes curl and it did hurt more than expected - and I am not a fuss pot at all. After that it was burning like anything so we rushed back down the M1 to get to my local Londis and whack on some petits pois - what a relief!
I have to go back 9.30 next Saturday for the results. Tuesday after that into NGH to have my ovaries out!
How were your results if you don’t mind me asking?
Best wishes to everyone else too.
Hi Jane
My results were quite good as ‘good’ goes for us ladies!
The lump was 18mm and they managed to get the entire lump out with enough clearance and also took 20 lymph nodes. The cancer was a grade 3 as they thought but there was no cancer in the lymph nodes at all. Therefore I don’t need any further surgery and am technically cancer free.
I see the Oncologist on Thursday as I have been told I will need 6 months of chemo followed by radiotherapy and then Tamoxifen (?) to make sure everything’s eliminated.
To be honest I’m more worried about how early they want to deliver baby (did I mention I was 21 weeks pregnant?) and how I’ll cope with potentially a baby in the special care baby unit, chemo and a toddler all at the same time! Hubby tells me not to think about it just yet but it’s hard not to.
Let us know how your results go, I’ll be thinking of you
Faye
Hi Faye,
It’s wonderful you are pregnant even if you are having all this awful worry. My two children (now 20 and 18)are the absolute lights of my life.
It’s funny but I am feeling quite soppy today about not having any more children - I wasn’t going to anyway what with being 45 and having a ‘vasectomised’ husband! It’s just the fact that my ovaries are going next Tuesday makes it all suddenly rather real and definite.
When do they think you might need to deliver?
Jane

Hi Jane
To be honest I’m not sure as they keep changing their minds!
Originally I was told 32-34 weeks by the Obstetrician, then hte Oncologist said 32 weeks and now he’s changed his mind about my type of chemo (he didn’t know about my family history of ovarian cancer so was originally going to delay the treatment until after baby was delivered…now he doesn’t want to as I’m too high risk). The latest news is that I’m due to start chemo as soon as a slot is available within the next 2 weeks and have 4 sessions of EC (FEC but without the F) before they deliver baby at 36 weeks. Then I’ll have FEC afterwards.
I’m happy that baby is going to cook for a little longer, especially as it means baby shouldn’t have to go into special care (or at least not for long). However I am a little worried about chemo whilst pregnant. I’m happy to go along with it because research has shown it isn’t as harmful as first thought in the 2nd and 3rd trimester but there are never any guarantees with this kind of thing!
I think I can imagine how hard it is to lose your ovaries (I’ll have to lose mine at some point too). It’s one thing deciding not to have any more children but it’s another story if the decision is taken out of your hands!
Good luck!
Faye
Hi
Jane I’m so glad someone is finally taking care of you!
As for the issue of children, I did have the decision taken from me. They advised me to start chemo right away which meant no time for egg collection. I basically have to wait and see how everything is at the end of treatment.

Hi Reemie
Same position as you re egg collection, all happenend so quickly, so no time for me :(. I am also HER2+ and have had 2 herceptins to date with cycle 7 and 8 of chemo, so in the same boat as you. I have to have full node clearance on 18th Dec now chemo is over (groan).

Have a look. LGFB session was fab and I would recommend, gave me a real boost.
Hope you are all doing ok???

Hi everyone - I thought I would ask after you all.
The latest with me - I had a total duct excision last week and there were two papillomas so now I am at higher risk for cancer - I will get current biopsy results a week on Wednesday. Coventry Hospital has been absolutely amazing in every respect.
I hope you are all doing well.
