Anyone in Westhill Aberdeenshire?

Are there any ladies in Westhill who’d like to share experiences?

Hi Car53, I am not in Westhill but am just south of Aberdeen. Was just diagnosed two weeks ago.

Hi Ladies

I’m a newbie on here and I live in Aberdeen. Diagnosed in August with grade 3 ductal and had wle. Did not get clear margins and have been diagnosed with also having lobular. Have since had surgery again and am awaiting results before starting on the long journey.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Georgie, sorry to hear you are also going through this. Good luck with the results.

I am still waiting to hear what my treatment plan is. The results of biopsy from lump under arm is holding things up but spoke to bcn yesterday and hopefully I will hear tomorrow or friday re appointment. Just want the ball to start rolling. I have been told I will get a mx, but when I don’t know.

This waiting game is not good.

Hello
Thanks to both of you for your reply.

I was diagnosed in February with lobular- MRI scan- surgery WLE and node removal in March. Radio in May/ June and now on Tamoxifen which has its ups and downs.
During my whole treatment I didn’t meet anyone else going through the same experience - I just wish I had joined this site sooner than this week.
I agree the waiting between stages is the worst bit. I kept being told it would be 2-3 weeks but it was more often 4-6 weeks.
Be patient as you will get through the long journey!

Good luck to both of you with your treatment plans. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Anng

I think the breast cancer team meet on a Wednesday at ARI to discuss results and decide on action plans for patients so hopefully you’ll receive word soon.

My ball started to roll this afternoon with a phone call from my surgeon’s secretary asking me to come to ARI tomorrow. I am now imagining all sorts of unpleasant things but at least I’ll know what the rest of the plan is and more importantly when it will start.

Hope you don’t have to long to wait.

Hi Car53 - this site is a comfort at times, knowing we are not the only ones going through this. At 39 years old and fit and healthy, I didn’t expect this at all. Do you get many side effects with tamoxifen?

Hi Georgie - yeah the bcn said yesterday the team meet today. I was hoping on a call but no. Good luck for tomorrow, let me know how you get on.

Morning Ladies

Hope your both well this dreich day.

Well, that’s me finished with the surgeon, clear margins at last whoopee! Next stage is 6 sessions of chemo plus 17 of Herceptin followed by rads further down the line and Tamoxifen for 5 years so a long way to go but will be glad to just get started. Awaiting an appointment with Onc which may take 2-3 weeks.

Hi Car53 - Are you on Tam for 5 years? I have been browsing this site since being diagnosed but hadn’t plucked up the courage to register until your post so thanks for that.

Hi Anng - hope your appointment is on its way. Yes this site is a comfort and I personally didn’t realise just how indiscrimate bc can be - it has no respect for either age, fitness or sex.

Have a good weekend.

Hi Georgie5
Good to hear that your treatment plan is a bit clearer now.
I am on Tamoxifen for 5 years although I think there is a possibility that they change it to something else in the last two years. My next appointment with oncologist is in January which seems a long way away but when I count up the weeks is only 9 weeks away.
Your emotions get such an upheaval from the whole bc business so remember to be kind to yourself. I still get ups and downs with more good days than bad now so it is going in the right direction.

Hi Anng
Hope you’ve had a good day. The waiting game is a hard one to play.
Take care

Hello Ladies,

Yay for clear margins  good to hear you now know your plan of action Georgie! You should of gave the surgeon a push in my direction lol.

Although I did get appt through today, 21st of this month so not too long to wait. At least it will make my plan clearer to me after this date.

What a horrible day here again, it has rained every day this week.

Hi

Sorry haven’t been on here since Friday busy trying to get up to date with things before chemo starts. Anng - great that your appointment has at last come through for next Monday - your treatment plan will be revealed then. Car53 - you have a bit longer to wait for your appointment but it will be here before you know it what with Xmas and everything.

I still at times can’t believe I have bc but I surely will when I start chemo and loose my hair. My hair is very fine and thin anyway so not much hope of saving it even with a cold cap. Hope to choose a wig before it all starts. I’m supposed to contact the bcn when my appointment date comes through to discuss. My usual hairdresser has said she will cut and highlight it if I want so thats good. I’ll also follow the other ladies on this site who are undergoing chemo and maybe pick up some good tips.

Kind regards

G

Its funny how the whole BC experience feels very surreal at times.
Good luck with the hair. You sound as though you are getting mentally prepared which will help. This website has lots of tips from ladies undergoing chemo so hope you find some moral support and practical tips to get you through it.

My hair which is fine and thin too, was ok after radiotherapy apart from getting very curly and growing fast - very odd! My hairdresser wouldn’t colour my hair until 6 months have gone by so I am looking forward to getting some highlights in time for Christmas.

Take care

D

Hi ladies, how are you both?

I too think this is all surreal. Still have bad moments but I guess that is normal. Three weeks today since I was diagnosed. You just don’t know what’s round the corner.

How did you find radiotherapy Car53? Those who I have spoke to said they were very fatigued during it?

Can’t wait until Monday so I know a bit more of my plan of action

CLAN’s new premises at Westburn Road are having an open day and Christmas fare this Saturday.

Hello

Thanks for the info on the Clan Christmas Fair.
I have been going to CLAN for a while now for Shiatsu massage which has been wonderful. My next appointment is in the new building. It is great having this time just to be good to yourself and it has kept me going. Like joining this site I took too long to make the Clan connection thinking I was so strong and independent I could do this on my own- BIG mistake!
I bottled it all up too which didn’t help.
Take all the support you can get as it is a rollercoaster ride!

Radiotherapy was OK. The parking was a nightmare but the staff were lovely. If you slap on the aqueous cream they advise it helps stop skin from breaking out. I got very tired towards the end and for a good while afterwards. Just picking up my energy levels in the past month.
I just ignored housework but did manage to cut my grass throughout the summer even though it took several days.

Only a few days to wait now until Monday!

Take care

Hi Ladies

Just to say I was mid message to you when the phone rang and I leant on something and it just disappeared so don’t know if the message was submitted or deleted. Who said women were good at multi tasking?l

Anyway it was just to say that my appointment with the Onc is on Monday 21st - same day as yours anng - Ooooooh! I’ll phone the bcn tomorrow for more info about what it will entail.

Thanks for the info about CLAN car53. I knew they held various therapy and feel good sessions but I haven’t contacted them yet. I suppose I still don’t see myself as a cancer patient or don’t want to but once I get started on the chemo regime that will all change I expect.

Hope your both well.

Kind regards

G

Evening ladies

Car53 I was thinking of going for a treatment session at CLAN, I may try the Shiatsu massage. I visited the new building, its lovely.

Parking at the hospital is always a nightmare aint it.

Georgie, where do you go to see your onc? Is it the same clinic? I am there in the afternoon. Only 4 sleeps lol - I just want to know!

My bcn phoned today just to see how I am. She is ever so nice.

What has everyone got planned for this weekend? I hope the weather is good

Hi Ladies

My appointment is 10.00am at Clinic D (I went to Clinic E when seeing the surgeon) and the BCN told me that the chemo nurse will answer any queries I may have regarding treatment. She was very nice and said she would send out the paperwork for my wig and that things usually move pretty quickly after the initial appointment with the Onc. Oh god its beginning to be very real now and I’m apprehensive about Monday. Keep reminding myself that the sooner I get started the sooner I’m finished. The BCN said that most ladies tolerate the chemo quite well but judging by the posts on here I know that it can go either way.

Nothing planned for the weekend. Monday - ARI, Tues - meeting a friend for lunch and Wed - a filling at the dentist - I lead such an exciting life - not!

Hope you both have a good weekend - 3 sleeps until appointment day.

Kind Regards

Hello

The Shiatsu therapist at Clan is Kay who is lovely!
I’m glad you are having support from your BC Nurse. I have only once heard from mine during all my 6 months of treatment. Its maybe different with Chemo.

I hope your dentist goes Ok - I have had problems since surgery with a front crown which keeps falling out. The dentist thinks it got twisted when I was under anaesthetic. After the fifth time my dentist has decided to remake it so until then I am stuck together with polygrip! As if we didn’t have enough to cope with.

Have a good weekend- it will soon be Monday and at least the weather has been fairly good this week -for November.

Take care

One sleep

Have any of you ladies had the flu jab? I was thinking I should maybe get it, will ask tomorrow.

Had a quiet weekend. Was in town seeing the lights go on earlier. It was crowded.

Hope you both had a nice weekend.

Hi

I got my flu jab a few weeks ago from my GP. He said I should have it before starting chemo.

Over 3 months since being diagnosed and haven’t been contacted by a BCN. The only reason I contacted them was to get the form for my wig. Hope the chemo nurses are more communicative.

Saw the Onc today and she confirmed that I would have 6 FEC followed by 18 Herceptin and that it would likely start next week. Back in the waiting room again for the appointment to get started.

How did you get on today anng at your appointment?

Regards

G
