I have started this group and I was wondering if anyone else is interested in trying to establish 4 April as a Metastatic Cancer Day; initially about breast cancer but hopefully trying to raise awareness of all Stage IV cancers.
I would also really like to be able to get an advocacy group going. I am involved with one which is mainly based in the US and it would be great to be able to do something in the UK as well.
Hi Vicki, a good start… but I personally would love to see something that is (a) public - accessible to those who don’t use Facebook, and (b) UK-based, I get so fed up hearing about how wonderful everything is in the US where patients can have treatments that are denied to us in the UK.
Probably because of chemo brain, I made a typo “…would _ live _ to see” rather than “would love to see” … a Freudian slip? We who have metastatic bc tend to fall off the edge sooner or later, so some of us can’t commit to doing things we would like to do to set up groups to make MBC more widely known. I wish I had done more in the 7 years that I’ve had bc/mets … but I do have a life outside cancer… at the moment.
I would be happy to get involved in anything which helps raise awareness about MBC and the issues we face, but must admit I shy away from becoming a “poster girl” for MBC… I’ve no idea where you would start, though…!
Just a thought: if you’re thinking in terms of 4/4/14 for Stage IV, why not call it Stage IV Breast Cancer Day? Easier to spell and pronounce and, I think, much easier for the general public to understand that Stage IV is the final stage; quite simply, there is no Stage V!
