Anyone more prone to infection after treatment?

I finished chemo in March 2010. Since then any time I get an infection it takes an age to go. In the summer I had a couple of small insect bites, and normally I never react to them. However this time my leg went bright red and I needed double dose of antibiotics to sort it. It has only now cleared up after nearly 2 months.

A small graze on my hand has taken several weeks to clear.

Now I have a tooth infection. I have already had 2 lots of antibiotics to clear it so the tooth can be removed, but within a day of finishing the tablets the infection is back again, and worse each time. I now have to go to the emergency dentists today to get more drugs.

So how long does it take for our immune systems to get back to normal? Any ideas?

Hi,

I’ve been asking my oncologist this, who wasn’t enormously helpful (the immune system is very complicated was the general gist of his answer) so I’d be interested to hear what other people say.

I finished treatment at the end of february and was actually doing quite well until I picked up a cold at the end of June. Since then I just can’t get rid of it and every time I do any mild exercise, I end up with a sore throat, earache and stuffy nose. I’m also on tamoxifen which I’ve read can depress the immune system, but I’m not sure if this is true or not.
