Hi Terry,
I had continuous 5FU with Epi last year about 16 weeks. I had hand & foot syndrome and also developed a really ugly lip ? coldsore which wouldn’t react to antivirals or antibiotics. In the end they took me off for 2 weeks and the lip healed lovely then went back on a reduced dose. After that very little in symptoms. Also had yucky mouth for a while couldn’t drink coffee ![]()
I had a picc line in that was just a nuisance when getting dressed and showered! I even travelled to Amsterdam via Easyjet with mine!!
Good luck to your wife

Hi Terry
I am currently having 5FU in conjunction with Oxaliplatin for bowel cancer. I previously had breast cancer and had AC and Taxotere. I am not sure if the regime of 5FU for breast cancer is exactly the same as that for bowel cancer but I have a portacath and am having a six month course. I am nearly half way through and find that this is a far more tolerable regime than AC and Taxotere. I have tiredness, nausea and am just developing hand and foot syndrome. My hair has thinned a little but not completely fallen out. There is a good information guide on the Cancerbacup website under the breast cancer section which I think is a very accurate guide to 5FU.
I hope it goes well for your wife.
