anyone starting chemo in August?

Hi Lols ive had a look at that site and i think i will order some of the fitted head scarfs, let us know what yours are like when they arrive please  they do have a good selection of colours and styles on there.
Lynsey xx

Thanks girls, will have a look!

Hi I looked on a site called Bandanas and I found some lovely paisley ones which I quite like they also sell them on eBay and amazon believe or not but will check out where you are getting yours from too Lols x

I’ve gone a bit mad to be honest, went for ditsy print as well as plain ones, some in pink and some baby blue!!! Don’t ask why just got carried away, they have beanie turn up things which you can accessorise, could be good for me as so allergic to any earrings, tried pierced but skin used to get in mess, even gold or silver and tried clip ons but same result, think if mohair earrings good distraction, so il be wrapping stuff around beanies you can mix and match loads of colours.
also got some neutral things , silver grey, cream etc. and a sleep cap if I like them il order more, will try amazon now, thanks Hun. Xx I can’t believe we are all having these conversations so calmly, the first thing I thought of at dx is what about my hair? Amazing what you learn to accept, right I’m off to amazon, catch you all later. ps anyone know name of eyelash thing that makes them hang on in there I’m sure I’ve read it on june chemo site but can’t find it now? Plus nail varnish thing omg gonna be broke!!!

I’ve also placed my order at Annabandana, having woken up at sparrows fart as usual this morning and decided to spend the early hours starting serious preparation.
I went for one of everything to see which style I like best so we can all compare notes when our long suffering postmen arrive
xxx

I realise now it was Annabandana I have been on before, don’t blame you Lols for getting lots of different ones, I have to admit I am not going to order until after Thursday, as I have this fantasy that I won’t need too Ha Ha!!! Lols please tell me the advantages of a Cold Cap, as don’t know about those? tasha101 it sounds like you are getting very organised too, I too wonder why we are talking so calmly about this although inside I am s…g bricks!!! This next week is such a big week for many of us. Xx

I think we have to talk positive on the outside no matter how we feel inside. It is a coping mechanism I guess and I think we have to go at it with a gungho attitude or we wont cope as well.
I love the positivity on here, the Macmillan site just depressed me, all of us seem to have very similar atitudes to cancer and life in general and I am sure we will all be able to laugh still as we go through this together…
I got a turban from Trend co in Brighton when I got my wig and I love it, so I will order some more from Annabandana, they have lots of colours xxx

Just popped in form the July Junkies to say that the advice we’re being given re yoghurt is because of non-pasturisation. It’s the same advice given to pregnant women I think. It doesn’t affect the chemo in any way but might affect you. So the advice is don’t eat anything dairy that hasn’t been pasturised, blue cheeses, cook everything thoroughly. Make sure if you eat out or get takeaways you totally trust the kitchen. My nurst didn’t recommend chinese, but thought indian would be ok if I could tolerate the speices etc. etc.
Personally I shall carry on eating live yoghurt but avoid it during the middle week of the 3 week cycle when we’re at our most vulnerable. Hope that helps.

Cold capping can freeze hair follicles and reduce hair loss considerably, looking at other posts depends on strength of chemo, apparently it’s the red stuff think that’s the E component of chemo that causes hair loss. Can be uncomfortable previous girls have said take paracetamol before hand, biggest downfall is your in chemo unit longer each time as need sometime with it on before chemo and about hour after and no guarantees it will work.
i know a girl who used cc last year kept all hair just went abit thin, Im undecided but hair goes thin anyway I think. I need to have a look at it before I decide x. Some ladies have fear that if you use cc might not target all stray cells eg head I’ve been assured buy team not the case with bc x

I am due to see the onc on 8 August and expect to start the chemo following this appt. I’m feeling very apprehensive at the moment but sharing experiences will help I hope. Good health to all others in the same position.

HI all
My scarves came from anna bandana last week and I love them. I also bought the 2 heart necklaces. All very comfy. I went for the plain fitted chemo scarves ( that are quite long) and some of the shorter ones. Also got the baker boy summer hat and a couple of winter ones. Really please and its a bonus that all the scarves are already tied so you dont have to faff around tying them or folding them.

Think the July junkies need a bit of positivity tonight,. Seems some of them are suffering this weekend with side effects and the whole emotional drainage of it all myself included!

lets try and cheer them up hey

Hi chez did post on their thread about 4 pm saw they were down bless them, you ok? Xx
im struggling with huge boob from 2nd wle prob due to original ANC , can’t bend down, stretch I think I’m going to pop, no analgesia working due aspiration again Tuesday can’t come quick enough, any advice amazing s ? its as big as tennis ball!!!
Anyone know what the eyelash stuff is called the June thread have mentioned? Should we have certain type of toothpaste? Shampoo? Conditioner? Wishful thinking I know but one day it will come in useful.
i got a bit carried away on annabandana today but resisted heart necklaces chez!!! How long did your order take to arrive?
we have rain at last in Swansea, loads of it!!! How’s everyone? X. Ps thinking of you tomorrow chez what time you there? Anyone else starting chemo tomorrow? Good luck all let us know your back safe and your ok x

Cheers Lols. It took 3 days to come and I placed another order yesterday for more. Thought the heart necklaces might detract from my Bruce Forsyth chin and bald bonce ha ha!
Gotta be there for half 8 for bloods and the chemo due to start at half ten. However loads of people have said to me that cos its at Christies ( dont know if you have heard of CHrsities in Manchester) and is so busy to expect to be there all day.

To be honest Im not scared of the chemo, dont get me wrong Im apprehensive and know that there will be days when I wanna throw the towel in etc but at the moment like Naz from the July junkies I just keep having morbid thoughts bout it coming back and no matter what I do I wont be able to stop it and I cant get my head from out of that place.
Is anyone else feeling that way or am I overanalysing things and should just focus on my treatment???

Tasha hows your weekend been??? HOw are the doggies???

The Junkies are down today and I ended up joining in as I am fed up with family, I’ve now locked myself in the bedroom and drunk the Rioja my husband was saving for after his squash league match…
Lois I’ve heard Rapidlash mentioned, is that it? I’ve tried that before when I had extensions removed and got left with little stumps it made them grow longer quicker. Not sure if it is man enough to stand up to chemo though.
chez good luck tomorrow
love to all xxx

Think we all feel like that, I know I do, every pain I get I think this is it!! But probably always had aches and pains but we home in more now. It’s early days for all of us the girls a year out of this say it does get easier they don’t wake up and go to bed thinking of their dx, we are just going to have to do this and then start living , getting our old selves back and a bit of new selves too orelse we will have crap lives. We have years to live its only this year that we have to give into.
yeah heard of Christies, big hospital, take books etc and drinks xx

Hi Chezza just want to wish you all the best fro tomorrow, will be thinking of you, I will also go on Julys thread shortly and post to them, though they were sounding a little down earlier, of course we can support them, am sure they will all do the same for us. Lols am so sorry you are still suffering so much, wish I could say something that would help but reality is I can’t say anything to make you feel better, pray Tuesdaybcomes quickly then hope it will ease things for you. welcome ChrissyW to Amazing August, if you would like to join our group, we are all in the same boat and very much support each other, wishing you all the help and support that you can get from here and from us all. Xx

Hi everyone, I’m just visiting from the Awesome April Angels to wish you good luck with your treatment. I’ve been looking back at some of our old threads and remembering how terrified we were at the start of our treatment. You are in for a rollercoaster ride but it is all doable and you will get through it. We are all coming to the end of our chemo journey now and looking back I have gained so much from the experience. I have made some fantastic friends on the forum, who have supported each other through all the ups and downs, with great advice, shared experiences and many laughs along the way. I have met many inspirational people, realised just how many good friends I’ve got and learned to really appreciate life. It’s worth picking up a few tips from some of the other threads to help you on your way.
Best of luck
Mel xx

Thanks so much Mel for lending us your support, and so glad to hear you are nearly at the end. Good Luck to you for the future xx
