I couldn’t take Anastrozole or Tamoxifen due to side effects especially aches and pains. Has anyone had any issues taking Exemestane??
Thanks for your help. Chris Xx
Hello Chris52,
Sorry to hear that you have experienced some bad side effects from hormone therapy so far, I am sure some of our forum users will be along soon to share their experience. You may also find it useful to speak with one of our volunteers through the Someone Like Me service. We can put you in touch with someone who has taken Exemestane themselves and can share their experience with you. If you would like to use the Someone Like Me service please do get in touch by email on: someonelikeme@breastcancercare.org.uk or by calling the service directly on 0114 263 6490.

Hello Chris, I am taking exemestane along with zoladex to switch off my ovaries. I have a few hot flushes but not had any joint pains or the like. I do get a bit nauseous sometimes, but if you take with food you should be ok. When I first started taking them (in the morning with breakfast) by about 11 and until 3ish I couldn’t concentrate, and felt ‘fuzzy’. I changed to taking them at teatime and this seems to have eradicated this issue. When you look at the list of side effects for exemestane its like …gulp…but touch wood these are minor for me at the minute. Hope this helps.

Hi Bella, thanks for replying. My Oncologist has now prescribed Exemestane, I start them on Saturday.
It’s nice to know you are having very few issues, hope I’ll be the same. I’ll try taking it at teatime.
The list of side effects can be frightening, especially having had so many with the previous drugs, the joint pain being the biggest problem, so bad I couldn’t walk! I don’t normally have reactions to medication. Fortunately I don’t need Zoladex !!
Appreciate your reply and best of luck.

Hi sio thanks for replying. I’ve only had 3 tablets yet so it’s early days for me, hope changing brands for you works too, I’ll have to watch that myself.
Hello, I was taking Anastrozole for 18 months until my consultant stopped them in May 2015 to see if things calmed down and to see if they were affecting my Thyroid meds. Last saw him in December 2015, all he said was my Thyroid meds seem to be working better and stay off the Anastrozole until I see him again in Feb 2016 (I was seeing him regularly every 2 months). Didn’t hear from the breast unit with my Feb appt, then I had a knee op in March and that’s when I was told my the anaesthetist that my consultant in the breast unit had retired due to ill health just after I saw him in the Dec!! So it took me a few months to finally chase up the breast nurse who realised that someone had made the Feb app, then it was cancelled before I had even received the letter telling me so!! Someone made a mistake they think, so my breast nurse contacted my surgery to arrange a prescription for me to collect to start on the Exemestane, which I did in August. Because I had been without any hormone meds at all since May 2015 until August 2016, my mind is working overtime thinking that every issue I have at the moment is because of that, and that something may have developed somewhere in me that I don’t know about. I’ve felt poorly for over a year, my Asthma has put me in hospital, I’ve had two viral infections within weeks of each other, then I picked up that awful Norovirus, which I think I’m still trying to get over even now and that was in November. Even when I breathe it hurts, and trying to get up off a chair is agony! I’m so dreading going shopping tomorrow as I know I will be doing it on my own, and again on Fri but hubby is with me then. Just want this all to go away now! Cheers, Michele ?X
