Anyone taking Femara AND Bonviva?

Is anyone taking Femara AND Bonviva?

I’ve recently changed onc and the new one has a different opinion about this combo.

I’d value any input anyone may have.

Thanks

Bonviva? Is that ibandronic acid tablets 150 mg monthly? I’m on Femara and Bondronat, which is ibandronic acid 50 mg tablet daily. I have a few bone mets.

Hi Mrsblue

Thanks for the reply. I was put Bonviva + calcium with vitamin D a few years ago, not for mets, but for early signs of osteoporosis, so I imagine I’ll be taking a different dose - I only have to take one Bonviva a month and then the calcium/Vit D for the other 27 days or so. This was done by my GP with the full approval of my old onc. I switched to Femara from Aromasin about 6 months ago and my new onc told me yesterday that she didn’t know I was taking this (this is quite understandable, given the circs of my transfer to her care - nobody’s fault) and she’s not convinced this combination is a good idea.

I’m well confused!

Hi S/Bahons2

Yes I almost wrote “osteoporosis” in my post, but I didn’t want to make assumptions. Are you taking an aromatase inhibitor (=Femara) to prevent possible recurrence of bc?

Lots of women with secondary bc in their bones are on Femara and various bisphosphonates, especially Bondronat if they are OK with taking the tablets - it’s not at all unusual. You may want to ask your new onc (or a bc nurse?) a few questions, or maybe check your medical records/letters (I’m a coward and don’t want to see copies of mine!)

Hope you get reassurance soon.
PS I’m a Bahons too - light blue

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply, mrs blue.

At the moment I’m in limbo land. Was switched to Femara when a PET scan picked up a cancerous lymph node 6 months ago, which was removed. A more recent PET scan came back clear, apart from another possible problem, again in the axilla, which is being investigated at the moment.

Thanks for your help! Much appreciated.

PS The ‘Bahons’ was the result of a crack by my OH - took me 9 years through the OU!
