Anyone taking part in ZICE trial?

Hi there

I’m about to start FEC and have been asked to take part in the ZICE trial… is anyone else involved? Any thoughts or experiences greatly appreciated.

Hi Humphr10

Whilst you await responses you may wish to read about the ZICE trial on the Cancer Research UK website via the following link:

Hi Humphr10!

My mum was diagnosed with secondaries in her bones in September and she part of the trial. She has zoledronic acid every 4 weeks via a drip. I think she decided to go for it as she knew she would be monitored a bit more closely than those not on the trial. I could ask her, if you have any specific questions?

I am on the ZICE trial and drew the zaledronic acid/zometa arm which is the IV infusion over 15 mins. Ocasionally, I can feel a little achey after the infusion but other than that no side effects. I’ve been on it since Sept 06 and some of my bone mets have shown signs of healing but I’ve had a little spread in my ribs but mt cancer is extremely aggressive so I am pleased with the result that I’ve had from zometa.
Do you know which arm you are on ie the tablet or the infusion. I would post again if you draw the tablet arm to see what others experiences are. There are lots of threads if you go to search for zometa/zaledronic acid and the tablet - ibandronate.
there are also lots of threads on FEC experiences as well.
Good luck with your treatment.
Kate

Thanks for your responses ladies. I haven’t been randomised yet but I also like the idea of being closely monitored. It gives you a sense of a little bit involvement in the treatment I think.
