I’m having maga problems with my neutrofils and am now on my third delay - have only had 2 treatments on time and one of them was the first one!!!
Someone has sent me an article re: a certain type of honey and I was wondering whether anyone has tried it? Also, are there any other recommendations to get it back up again?
I am drinking far too much tea (addicted) so I am going to have to knock that on the head I think.
Any experience/ideas appreciated
Thanks a lot

I finished chemo in October and I still have serious problems with my neutrophils and nobody knows why. My herceptin keeps being delayed as a result. I think the honey you are talking about is either Life Mel honey or Manuka honey. The Life Mel is very very expensive. You can probably source it online.
Somebody suggested freshly squeezed pomegranate juice although the thought of the mess puts me off completely!
I have been taking Manuka honey from the first week of chemo. I can’t prove it help or not but my neutrophils were fine for my second chemo. It is just honey, it is expensive, but as I am not spending any money on hairdresser, I figure I can treat myself with honey…
Hi Fizbix,
I am taking a dollop of Manuka honey on a teaspoon 3 times a day. Not sure if its doing any good. It has to be a high strength one.I have used dressings on people with leg ulcers (with Manuka honey in them) and they worked well so I am just trying my own regime and working on the theory that it not a harmful substance so have nothing to lose.
I too have had deferred treatments and yes the honey is expensive but only equivalent to two drug prescriptions and that outweighs the frustration of another week lost to this ugly disease in my own personal book,

I spent a bomb (£9) on Manuka honey when mine went down and guzzled it, Very tasty but didnt make a blind bit of diff. Theywere worse than ever next time!!! Someone else said it had to be life mel which is about £70 !!!
Well these honeys are supposed to be antiseptic, but you need to manufacture wbcs
Home made chcken soup - boil up some carcasses and whizz them in a blender with plenty of herbs and flavouring drink loads…full of arginine to make new neutrophils. Wish I had done that instead of the honey, it worked well for me before
good luck Zoe x
LifeMel is sipposed to work and it costs £40 plus £5 delivery charge from their website. I did not try, but I have friends that did and it is supposed to help. I will be buying one this week just in case as I had platelets problems prior to treatment so I do not want this to delay my next chemo.

Hi, just to say that I’ve been off tea and have resorted to drinking herb teas which taste OK with a spoonful or two of manuka so that might work for you, Fizbiz, at least in the business of getting as much drink down you as possible. Not sure that the honey does any good, but certainly does no harm and the herbal tea tastes gross without it!
Cryst - thanks for the giggle! I, too, have been adding manuka honey to a cup of herbal tea - or at least to a cup of green tea. Strangely, though, I’ve gone off real tea too so that herbal tea is almost quite tasty in comparison!
