Anyone with BRCA1/Triple negative breast cancer?

Thank you lulu that is an interesting article … I dont know much about the PARPS but have heard about them.

wonder if its something I should ask my onco about ? As all ive been offered is Rads

Hi Ladies,

Lulu, have had appt today with PS. He has offered me LD+implant,as I do not have a lot of fat on my back implant would be needed. He was veering more towards TRAM/DIEP as he said I do have enough tummy fat, however I would need scan to see how the blood vessels are in case of damage from radiotherapy. He said he felt if blood vessels were OK this would produce the best results.

I am going to a support group next week to talk to ladies who have had both ops.I really didn’t want to go through the long op for TRAM/DIEP but now thinking if this gives best long term results I should seriously consider it.

I am posting on the reconstructive surgery forum as well but thought anyone also with family history, BRCA2, TRIPLE NEG,may be interested.

My head is like cotton wool trying to take this in and knowing I have a huge decision to make…wine time perhaps??

It is alot to think about and a big decision. I definately agree with the suggestion of a glass of wine!!
Thanks for the reference Lulu. It was very encouraging. Thanks too for your patience in explaining your views on the risk- I will push my surgeon to give his opinion too as I have realised that this is the gap I need to fill. Its really helped to have your opinion as he really did make me feel it was a ‘when’ not ‘if’ scenario which was so depressing. It made me feel very, very nervous about impending scans.
Feelings aside, its all very interesting- I had no idea that HRT would (in the past)used equine oestrogen!
Good luck to all. xxxx

Rattles i think the actual rate for 2nd cancer in gene carriers is something like 43% compared to around 7% for non gene carriers.

its obviously a much higher chance but its not inevitable… after all some people who have gene mutations never get cancer at all… i hope you get some answers.

i hope the support group helps you decide what route to go down… i totally agree about the cotton wool thing… i really dont know what to do either… just now feel happy that i have decided im def gonna have surgery… but what surgery i do not know.

there is also a forum called brca umbrella if you google you will find it… they have lots of pre and post op pics as well as personal diaries of going through risk reducing surgeries so lots of first hand experiences.
