Wondering if what I’m feeling is the norm. I had a mastectomy and LD reconstruction (no flap) done on 11th June with this type of implant. Had first saline injection into the port 10 days ago which was okay while it was being done but caused discomfort for a couple of days afterwards. My second injection was yesterday and once again no problem when it was done but it feels so hard! I appreciate that the skin is being stretched so there is bound to be some discomfort but I’m a little concerned as to just how solid it feels, seems strange that it didn’t feel like this immediately it was done. Makes me wonder if something else is going on.
Hi, mine felt quite hard but when I asked my consultant if it would eventually soften he offered to take away some of the saline back out after a few more weeks. My boob is now perfect and apart from the obvious scars it looks and feels so real. The reason he left it for a few weeks was to stretch the skin and give a little bit of droop. I had no pain though and no real discomfort after the 2nd day.
Hope this helps. If you are concerned though I would urge you to get it checked out, then if all is fine you have not wasted anyone’s time as it will have put your mind at rest.
that helps. I have been struggling with the effects of my first chemo as well so haven’t been posting. I went to see my surgeon yesterday morning and he seemed to think the boob was okay. He didn’t feel he could take any saline out anyway as he had a bad neck! Do you know if the saline part of the implant has, perhaps, crystals in it or something that the saline injection reacts to as my boob keeps changing how it feels, sort of engorged then settling a bit then engorged again. I could understand this more easily if there was a rective component to the implant.
