Hi all,
while having chemo yesterday I had a read through my notes. I had been told I have invasive ductal grade 3 cancer but from reading my notes I also had DCIS grade 1 lobular. They took out both - but is this normal to have two cancers???
the report also said lymp invasion present then the lymp they took out was clear - I am worried about this…
thanks for any advice.
vicky
Hi Vicky,
Yes I had 2 different types - Invasive ductal in my right, and lobular in my left, had a bilateral mastectomy. I had found a lump in the right but they found the left side at the hospital. I dont know if its common or not. I dont know why they said you had lymph invasion as I always thought that they cant tell until they do sentinal node biopsy - maybe thats wrong?
take care
Shirley
Lymph invasion probably means lympho-vascular invasion. This means that there is evidence that the tiny lymphatic and blood vessels have been penetrated by the tumour. This is very common in invasive cancer. LVI is a prognostic indicator which helps oncologists decide whether to recommend chemotherapy or not.
They think LVI increases the risk of positive nodes - but that is not always the case. I had multiple foci of LVI but negative nodes.
I think it isn’t uncommon to have a variety of types in your tumour - mine was predominantly ductal ER+ grade 3 but had a 1mm fringe of high grade DCIS some of which was lobular.
thanks ladies,
I feel a little relief about your info. I was more concerned that they never told me. Am a bit of an information freek so need to know these things.!!
thanks again. Now have questions for onc.
