Hi,
After my biopsy I was told I had mucinous breast cancer which is quite rare and was charaterised by the cells producing mucous when viewed under the microscope, I thought this would have made it difficult to get the diagnosis wrong but following my mastectomy they have said that I have dutal carinoma of no special type (or whatever the phrase is). So I have gone from having one of the rarest to having the most common. When I spoke to my Breast Care Nurse about it she just said that they don’t always get it right with a biopsy as such a small sample of tissue is taken and that when looking at the whole picture after surgery they decided I have this NST instead. The oncologist said it’s kind of irrelevant at the end of the day as it would be treated the same but still it’s left me a tad confused. Has anything like this happened to anyone else?
