Hi everyone,
Following my experience with breast cancer, I am setting up a cancer support centre in my local area. I am appealing for all of your scarves, wigs, books or anything that you think I may be able to use at the centre. So far I have had no help from any organisation or government funding and myself and a few friends have raised all the funds so far ourselves so all help from kind members would be grateful.
Also I am setting up a buddy scheme, basically its just a book with your details in and a photo, your diagnosis, your treatment etc… and any advice that you can give to someone else that is thrown in the awful predicament that we found ourselves in. There will be an option to be a telephone buddy just basically to give an ear, no medical advice just an ear of experience.
I hope you can all help me in my quest, please inbox me or hollymeg for further details of the address to send the items too. Thank you in advance.Sharon x

Have several wigs (some unworn) and a few scarves. Would love to send them to you. Just pm me the address and I will post them.
Love Judy
Thank you very much ladies, I cannot believe that in our hospital they charge people £60 for a wig and £7 for scarves!! It breaks my heart seeing people dig around in their bags for the money. As if getting cancer isnt bad enough, then you have to pay for the pleasure !!
Judy I have pm’d you the address
Take Care

Just a small point. I was surprised initially that we had to contribute towards our own wigs but having had no hair (to speak of) for a year now, I am actually well in pocket re wigs-versus-hair doos- and hair- products- expenses.
If you never spend anything on your hair then a wig would seem expensive but I think the majority of us spend quite a lot on our hair over the course of a year. I have had to buy only 3 wigs so far and in fact have only worn two- that’s everyday wear for 15 months (one was a bad fit and I donated it to the excellent wig bank) - and I am better off financially than I was before I lost my hair.
It’s horrible being bald but the expense is not the issue !
Hi there,
Ive got a nice wig and a couple of bandannas that you can have, please send me an address. What health authority do you come under,is it up to local government if you have to pay or not? I didnt pay anything for mine and it was wonderful and I was treated the same in the wig shop as the ladies who were paying hundreds.
BTW I live in the Tameside area of Manchester. Good luck, Mags x
It saddens me that some health authorities expect patients to pay for their wigs. I was lucky enough to be handed a prescription and information on 2 places to go to by my oncologist the first time I met her. I expected to be offered something very cheap, but some of the wigs I looked at were around £130 and I was told that was OK.
