Good news on your results Christine!
Sorry you’re not feeling so good Fitful, hope you pick up soon.
I’m back from chemo, second lot of FEC. Feeling tired, waiting for the queasy! Spending the day on the sofa, weather pretty grim anyway!
Hope all went well with you Gigi.
Have a good weekend all x
Hi everyone still here at chemo, got to wait hour and half with the cooling cap then catching the train home. All has gone well so far and have left all the cover at work in case I need Monday and Tuesday. Hope you feel better fitful I’m hoping to make it home before I start feeling rough. Fell asleep here. So feeling ok. Have a nice evening
Hiya everyone I had chemo on Wednesday and had an allergic reaction to one of them.Yesterday and today I’ve felt tired.I got a call today to go and see my consultant on Tuesday
How many have you done Sally?
Sorry Wildshell is that to change the drugs you think?
Thanks fitful, that’s way more detail than my daughter gave me!
Hope you get problems sorted Wildshell.
How are you feeling Gigi? I was very queasy last night, early to bed and feel better so far this morn. I only kept cold cap on for 45 mins after, maybe that’s why my hair is falling out! I did speak to the nurse and she said it might fall out for a few days now and then stop stop keeping my fingers crossed.
Hope everyone else is well x
Morning all thanks Michelle I didn’t get home till after 6.30 Cold capped hour and a half after. We stayed up watching stuff as I slept during chemo and slept well. Just taken Meds and waiting to go have breakfast. Took sennakot for the first time ever in my life when I got back and I think that has made a difference already. I hope you are feeling better as the day goes on. I’m hear wearing my silke still. Don’t get despondent with the cold cap if you can it is a real pain I couldn’t wear my glasses with it yesterday hence sleeping. I think we will still lose hair with it but maybe not as much. I know you are really upset about it. I really don’t want to lose mine too. But am just a little curious as they are sticking on the extra large cold cap to know the shape of my head! Wildshell have you managed to sleep? I hope you are less tired. Fitful head I will be trying out teas today. I have turmeric root to add to the ginger. Will also put in honey and elderflower I think but will experiment. Al the moment my go to tea is 3mint. I had 4 when I got home yesterday will a bit of honey. Going to try get out for a walk to. Maybe to the library to get some new books. Take care everyone. Hope you all manage to enjoy it. Thinking of you all x
Wow my spelling is atrocious today apologies
Morning all. Do hope it goes well with the cold cap. I dread losing my hair - probably in the coming week. The closer I get to this, the more I cherish my short, grey, ordinary hair.
Today I choked on a tablet I was trying to swallow. In what used to be normal life I could swallow a handful of supplements in one go. Now I gag on anything bigger than a tiny anti-sickness pill.
Off to the chemist for sennakot, baby toothbrush, mouthwash. No one ever tried to kid me this was going to be fun.
Big hugs
Hi Dorabel remember to get mouthwash without alcohol I think it’s better. I’m changing my baby toothbrush for a new baby one today going to get a new one each cycle. Hope we all keep our hair. Lots of fluids x
Dorabel I’d recommend pineapple, tinned is as good as fresh as they both contain an enzyme that helps with the gums. I’m also eating a lot of prunes instead of sennakot, seems to be working!
Gigi I’m lying in bed with my silke on too, enjoy your walk to the library, I’ll go for a walk down the lane when I get out of bed! How is your arm now? X
Good morning everyone.
Actually feel like i had a good nights sleep so looking forward to the day. loving all the tips on here and will try some of those ice tea recipes. i often find i don’t want coffee but i am not sure what i do want so that sounds good. i do seem to have problems with stomach acid and was told mint isn’t good for it but i do have a green with ginger tea bag that i like.
i have found pharmasists very helpful so you may be best asking one on the best mouthwash while undergoing chemo, i have one the hospital gave me but i have been instructed to dilute it by quite a bit.
Morning ladies I am from march thread hope you are all doing good
Remember we are all strong and can do it I am doing 6 rounds of fec 3rd on Tuesday please stay positive as it gets you through
Nobody wants to be in this situation but what can we do just be advised by doctors
Re guarding hair mine has all gone making the decision to shave it all of was the hardest thing I have done but since I have shaved it I feel much better I was worried about what people would say/think but
nobody has said anything I have 2 daughters who have glorious long curly locks and would die if a single hair out of place! But they have been great and supported and encouraged me to embrace my baldness no wig for me just lovely bright scarves
Sorry for the essay but this is not forever and we will all get through this. times are scary but stay strong and listen to your body be kind to yourself xxxxx
Thank you Pam2 good luck on Tues X
Michelle thanks for asking about my arm no pain at all today, they put the cannula under the arm. Currently eating a raspberry icelolly Delicious!
Morning all Glad we all seem to be feeling better today! I’m still a bit groggy and flat but pottering and resting is working well - actually dozed off on the floor doing my post-op arm stretches. Worst thing is a very sweet taste in my mouth, and incredibly sore hips (often uncomfortable during my period, so just think chemo has amped it up).
Re sore mouth, I was advised to use chlorhexidine mouthwash, which I do anyway as I’m prone to upset gums and ulcers. I use Corsodyl - tastes like hell, but works - both mouthwash and toothpaste. Both my oncology nurse and dental hygienist recommended continuing using the toothpaste with a soft manual brush (normally I use electric) and gentle flossing, and only to use the mouthwash if my mouth’s getting uncomfortable (Corsodyl has dilution instructions on the side). The wash can stain your teeth after a while, but it’s easily sorted by the hygeinist.
I’m not cold-capping… I change my hair quite frequently anyway (I caused panic booking my wig fitting when I told them my hair colour’s cyclamen and peacock blue - had last haircut and colour straight after my oncologist’s appointment confirming I would lose it!) and I really can’t bear being cold. Sounds silly put like that, but when it’s painful and time-consuming and I’m happy enough to play around with scarves and hats, and interested to see how my hair will grow back, it made sense not to.
Thanks for the advice Pam, I will persevere with the cold cap and see what happens. I’m fortunate to have thick hair so could probably get away with losing 50% depending on if it comes out in clumps and if it does I will just resort to wigs and scarves like everyone else. It is lovely to be able to come here and spout off all of our worries and receive such great support.
Fitful - I had to google what colour Cyclamen hair colour is and I love it! But I am not the adventurous type when it comes to hair colour and style I leave that to my daughter! What colour wig did you go for?
Glad you slept well Christine and are pottering about. I plan on pottering a bit later.
Gigi just sent my husband out for ice lollies! A few very interesting books on the south bank site, thanks x
Now I’m texting my other half to get *me* some ice lollies too - the peer pressure on here is terrible :)
Michelle21, here’s my latest hair: I have my wig fitting on Monday - I think I’ll start with my natural coulour (mousy chestnut) and perhaps go a bit mad on the shape/length! Not sure how much I’ll use a wig, but thought it was a good idea to get one and have the option.
Ladies, are your wigs automatically offered as part of your treatment or did you go to someone independently? I saw someone about a hair system before i started chemo but it will take 5 weeks if I decide to go ahead. I think I’ll know more next week before my next chemo on Thursday as it will be 3 weeks since my first cold cap. Some days I think I’ll just let it go and will be fine but other days I can’t imagine how I’d feel if it does.
Also, instead of mouthwashes I’ve just been using salt water after every meal/snack and it’s been working well. I suffer from ulcers but so far this has kept them at bay and found it more gentle than bought mouthwashes.
Dorabel, I’m also struggling with swallowing pills which I’ve never had an issue with either. A strange side effect!
Its so reassuring to hear from all of you who have have had round 2 this week, you all sound in good form! Hoping it continues for all over the coming days. X Fiona
? you’re right about the peer pressure here! I’ve had to buy pomegranates, cinnamon rolls and now ice lollies!
Unfortunately your hair colour didn’t come out it was just a big triangle! Even got my daughter to try and find it but no success
Hi Fiona, I was given £100 voucher for my wig, I’ve had a fitting but didn’t ask how much so I don’t know if that covers it.
I have also had the odd problem swallowing pills and the crusts! X
Thanks Michelle…good to know on both counts! I think I get a voucher for a wig but haven’t received it yet…and reassuring to know its not just me and Dorabel having those swallowing issues! Enjoy you day x
