April 2024 chemo starters

Does anyone have hair growing back on their head? I shaved on April 9th, Grade 0. In the last month, it grown back blond (I have dark auburn hair normally) so I’ve had some of the old dark hair as thick stubble and then this soft blond hair coming through everywhere else. I’m assuming Docetaxel will destroy everything in its wake so it won’t last long but just wondered if this is happening to anyone else?

Eyebrows are like 1990’s eyebrows now. I didn’t notice them go, they were just suddenly super thin and my eyes feel sore and watery as my eyelashes slowly depart. So sad as it’s the one thing I love about my face is my long eyelashes.

Shitty twatty cancer! X

Good morning
I’ve also got some hair growth but it’s so sparse, you can see my scalp clearly , only way to describe it is a little like a kiwi ,
My eyebrows are also very 90’s :weary: having to add to them to try and fill them out, my eyelashes have been really good but last couple of days I’ve really noticed a difference in them, still got a full set but just feel less full.
Hope the last couple of days have treated everyone well xx

My hair has got a bit like a kiwi lol small amount of growth. I was at the look good feel better glass today and got a bag of makeup and skin creams. Lots of tips also. The lady taking it said a good idea to wear false lashes as protects the eyes. I’ve my 3rd AC tomorrow :crossed_fingers:and then 1 more to go. Got a letter today have to go to radiotherapy planning in 10 days time. My last AC is 12th of June and they hope to start radiotherapy with a week or so if this. I know I’ve still to get the last 2 cycles but it just feels like there’s an end insight. Hope everyone is keeping well xxx

Aw that’s so good to get a bit more of a plan…. I find it good to have the milestones to look forward to ticking off!

I found the class good too and that bag of goodies was so decent!! I still have my eyelashes etc but super dry eyes and light sensitivity because of it now so have been prescribed eye drops today🙌🏻

Just got letters in for my mid way scans after my 4th chemo and actually a bit excited (as sad as it sounds) as I can feel the lump smaller from chemo so am interested to see what it’s like in about 2 weeks time as it’ll be good to get the size in a more scientific way than me just poking and prodding😂

@pollyanna1 and @belle1 how positive to have these plans coming into view! On the grey rainy day that we’re having down South, that’s a tiny ray of sunshine :sunny:
I did the LGFB Skincare and makeup workshop yesterday and it was good fun. I felt a bit wired making myself up when I feel so horrible but my (fabulous) daughter video called when I got home and kept going on about how great I looked that i almost believed her  As you said @pollyanna1 , lots of lovely products in a huge bag and lots of ideas tips too. I’ve even put makeup on today and have only been to Sainsbury’s :joy:
@swk1981 I have finally called my lovely hairdresser who’s coming on Saturday to sort my wispy, baldy head so I’m several steps behind the rest of you. It’s taken time but I’m reconciled to my loss now

That’s brilliant news, it’s the small steps forward that really help, @pollyanna1
I went onto the look good feel better website and ordered an extra little goody bag ( the spring one ) which again had some lovely items in , I felt so much better after the class
@belle1 best of luck with your scan, I’ve had a telephone consultation today regarding the next chemo treatment and she reminded me of all the lovely new side effects but still taking the positives from it as it’s another step forward towards the end goal

Oh I didn’t know you could do that on their website! Yep I’ll be moving onto the Docetaxel from 14th June and will just be taking it as it is as it’s so unique for each of us too we just don’t know what side effects we’ll actually get (so I’m not stressing about stuff that might not happen as my head would explode😂). Looking forward to 3 weeks between chemos instead of 2 as well as although it’ll take longer to complete after the switch it’s more time to recover between which I’ll probs be needing by then!

We’re getting there☺️

Hello everyone! Lovely to hear that we are all starting to think about our end dates of chemo! I’ve been a bit absent this week ive just felt really rubbishy this round of EC it’s day 13 and still feel rough with a headache that just won’t go very annoying! Anyway rant over! As you know I shaved my hair a couple of weeks ago I did actually buy a really good scalp moisturiser/cleanser from Jennifer Young. It’s really good, my scalp was quite dry and this seems to have helped. I have my last EC on 30th May then 9 sessions of Abraxane starting on 20th June. I think I need to have a system where I tick each one off or something as it still seems a long way to go! Sending lots of love to everyone Helen xx

Good luck with the hair, I know it’s awful and traumatic but I think I found it more traumatic when it was coming out in clumps and in a weird way when it was shaved off I didn’t have to think about oh is it tomorrow it’s all coming out or oh I’m scared to wash my hair. Sending you a big hug, you can do this xxx

@isthisreal yeah I feel the same… glad next Friday is my last EC even just from a mental point of view rather than physical! Trying to make the most of the EC as expecting Docetaxel to floor me more. Honestly the tummy situation makes me laugh - I start taking laxatives then am like uh oh shouldn’t have done that or the other way about …. Just can’t suss it!!

@hc1973 I’m actually on hair wash day today and feeling at the anxious point for it! Had chopped my hair into a short pixie but last Monday had a huge shed (still have an even enough covering) but prepping myself for the trauma of it all shedding as much again. I’m still cold capping so could go either way. I had ridiculously thick hair to start which is why it still looks ok but if I loose all that again then bald spots it is🙈 I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of days just with the build up to wash day as ridiculous as it sounds. I keep feeling like it would be easier to shave and save myself the stress!!

@isthisreal If you do use laxatives, use them very carefully! I think that was my problem the first cycle of docetaxel, I took a few days of laxido and then all hell broke loose. Second cycle I’ve just been focused on getting more fibre and water in my diet and it’s been much more manageable and I haven’t needed either the immodium or the laxido.

Oh the joys of poo :poop: don’t think I ever thought I would think about it so much, was weirdly quite looking forward to loose bowels after all the constipation but now I’m not so sure  hoping I can manage to even it all out , will keep you posted on what next week will bring, or not bring :woman_shrugging:
Think for me it’s the lack of control again even if it’s toilet control :joy:

I’ve been a bit quiet since last EC in Thursday as this one has hit me more emotionally, but still with the nausea. Had an ultrasound in Monday and the tumour hasn’t shrunk and I was really disappointed - and the reality of the cancer inside me hit me! Radiologist said she wouldn’t have expected it to have shrunk by now and the good news - nothing in lymph nodes. Should have had a make up workshop today but it’s been cancelled which is disappointing as nearly 2 months till the next. Really struggled with the 25/26 temperature on Monday, but now tipping it down. Sorry for the rant ladies xx

So sorry to hear you are feeling low @gromit12 - I found my last EC really difficult both emotionally and physically. Will they continue with the chemo? My consultant said that if my tumour hadnt shrunk at the half way point they would pause the chemo, operate and remove the tumour and then restart the chemo to ensure all cancer cells were eradicated. Really good news about your lymph nodes though. At least you know it isn’t spreading at all x

Just home from 3rd AC 1 more to do and that’s me finished :crossed_fingers: was told today will be getting 15 sessions of radiotherapy end of June.
@gromit12 go easy on yourself my last cycle floored me, sickness nosebleeds muscle and bone pain only felt better from day 15. I cried all day Sunday so emotional think its the first I’ve really cried from diagnosis. Think reality kicked in. Felt much better on Monday for it lol. My lymph nodes are also clear.
I got weighed today and had 2lb on from last time😂 I suppose it’s the diet of chip butties and ice cream. Only thing I really feel like and cheese lol.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Messaging now as I might be of the radar next few days.
If anyone is suffering dry mouth oncologist gave me biotene mouthwash she said a lot of sore throat’s are caused by mouth becoming very dry. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Radiologist didn’t expect tumour to have shrunk. Have phone call with oncologist tomorrow, and a cardiac echo!, so let’s see what he says then

@gromit12 i had my lumpectomy before chemo so I can’t put myself in your shoes but I’m thinking it’s not the news you want to hear, hopefully you will get some news on going forward at your next appointment and I will be keeping everything crossed for you, but really good that your lymph nodes are clear  does that mean you won’t have to have any nodes removed?
@pollyanna1 hope your side effects are kinder to you this time and I will be thinking of you too, I definitely know where you are coming from with the emotions , I too felt better after having a miserable day after my third treatment, sometimes you just need to have a cry to make you feel better :mending_heart: sending love to you all
