Hi, I’m recently diagnosed with a grade 2 lump and will need surgery, chemo and rads. Since seeing the consultant I have been sent for an MRI, CT scan and bone scan. Waiting to see the consultant again. Are all those scans standard practice after diagnosis or should I be even more worried?
It’s normal, they need to assess what’s going on because it might alter the order of treatment. I had a mastectomy, they then found it was lobular, so I had to go for MRI and CT. MRI lying on front 3 weeks after mastectomy was not fun! But the waiting for results is a killer. Hugs.
I had the CT and bone scans both before and after surgery (so 4 in total) but I’ve never had an MRI (also lobular ).
my lobular didn’t really show on the mammogram or ultrasound as being malignant (grade 3/5 where 1 is benign and 5 obviously malignant) so they felt I needed MRI for other breast
Thanks to you all for your replies. I was just surprised they were doing all three scans, so started getting worried about why - if they think there could already be some spread…
Really pleased they are being so thorough though, I just have to stop getting the heebie jeebies and wait to hear what’s in store in the way of treatment. Good luck to all!
