Area of concern in lymph node on USS .....

I had my first clinic visit yesterday after finding a lump in my left breast, and when the doctor examined me he said it was probably a fibroadenoma.

Then I had a mammogram then an ultrasound. The nurse doing the ultrasound said that she had also found ‘an area of concern’ in my lymph node so she took a biopsy from the lump and also from the lymph node. I’m now confused as I’m not sure if this is something new to worry about. She said my results would be back next Tuesday and I would get a phone call to arrange an appointment to get my results.  Like lots of ladies this next week is going to be horrible and probably the longest week ever…

Im also sore from the biopsy and trying to put a brave face on as my husband is not handling it very well…

Hi MrsS,

I’m in the same boat as you.

I found a lump in my left breast on 5th April.  GP referred me on 6th April when I managed to get an emergency appointment.  Went to the breast clinic on 18th April.

The doctor didn’t say much when he did the clinical examination on me.  He found the lump right away and immediately sent me to get an ultrasound.  (I don’t think the sent me for mammogram because I’m only 34.)

The ultrasound tech also found the lump right away and said they’d do a core biopsy - which I fully expected.

What I didn’t expect was when he scanned my armpit he went “whoops, there a prominent lymph node, we’ll have to bipsy that too”.

So they did 3 core biopsies on the lump in my left breast and a fine needle aspiration on the lymph node.

Since then, all that has been swimming around my head are the words “prominent lymph node”.

Waiting for results is so horrible.  I have daignosed myself with everything.

They gave me an appointment for 3 weeks after the biopsy.  However, one week on I was going insane and asked them if I could have it earlier and they managed to give me one a week earlier - so I’ll get results next Wednesday.

I share in your confusion abput whether this is something new to worry about.  it’s so horrible waiting.
