Hi - haven’t posted on here in ages, but am beginning to get a little worried as only 18months left on Arimadex, and have come to view it as a kind of ‘safety net’. Went back for my annual check up the other day, and the registrar said that because I had a high scoring tumour(1st time I’ve been told that!) I would probably be kept on it longer than the usual 5 years or put on something else instead. Does anyone know anything about what usually happens. Jean
Jean - I think five years is the normal length of time for hormone therapy because that is the most likely time for a recurrence, I was told. After that, I imagine it is on a case-by-case basis.
Maybe someone else knows more.

Hi Jean,
I had similar concerns on stopping Arimidex and asked my onc about extended treatment. There is evidence that for higher risk patients there is a benefit for greater than 5 years of treatment and I’m going onto Femara/Letrozole for a further 3 or 5 years depending on the ongoing trial results. Since I don’t have any great side effects from Arimidex this is very reassuring to me.

Thanks for your replies. I think by what the registrar said the other day that I will probably be put on something else after Arimadex, which will also be very reassuring to me too. I’ll try to stop worrying now then! thanks again. Jean
PS it’s so comforting to come onto these forums and talk to people who have same concerns/worries as youself. Just realising what have been missing over the last months of not reading/posting! Jean xx
I agree, Jean. It is such a relief sometimes, to know that whatever you are going through or worrying about, you are not alone.
